Bought a nice Marlin 1895 SS last week. Never have had one and i'm excited to own one. It has the walnut checkered butt stock and a plain wood Forearm. The rifle dates to 1990 by serial number and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was supposed to have checkered wood or the plain wood? I would like o replace whichever is not supposed to be there. Also, suggestions on where to find the correct piece?
Thanks

Brownells sell complete factory stock sets. I ordered a set for a 357 gun. They didn’t match as good as I wanted and they swapped them out no questions asked. Really good to work with

I can't recall if mine was the same. It sure was one I really regretted selling having to sell. Mine was very accurate with a 350gr caste bullet I still have the mold for. I mostly shot reduced loads so was not bad at all. I used to have a lot of Marlin levers. Some models had a bigger perch belly than others and I wonder if someone may have changed that for a slimmer profile. If so, that was a nice move. The perch belly on some is a little clunkier than necessary. I don't recall the profile of the SS. Boy I'd buy back a few of those I sold.
