That went out in the 90's and 2000's. Hardly anyone does it anymore. Mostly because of SMD technology an unavailability of parts. You would have a better chance of repair looking for people that do it as a hobby on youtube. I will tell you most problems are in the power supplies usually capacitors or the output transistors. Some of this is age and some is caused by electrical spikes and brownouts, usually taking out a resistor which leads to a chain of events and components leaving.

If you strike out in your area, Speakerworks in Tulsa can help you out. It's run by Dave Miller. Dave outsources most electronic repair to Many Moons Audio out of Claremore and does speaker rebuilds himself. Dave is pretty much the Tulsa Audio Guru, as he's been in the industry since the 70's, maybe earlier.

Between the two of them, they can fix about anything, but be warned: They almost NEVER work on modern gear. Vintage 2 channel gear like Marantz, HK, Sansui, McIntosh, turntables and the like is mostly what they do. Paul at Many Moons has fixed my old Onkyo Integra preamp a couple times and just rebuilt the matching amp last summer. Every single bulb/indicator/meter is working perfectly, some caps and filters and cold solder joint repairs. He's not cheap, but he has a nationwide rep and does damn good work.

And if it's a piece not worth repairing, Dave will definitely let you know about it!

It is an older Yamaha stereo receiver. It was making a cracking/popping sound off and on while watching a movie then it got where it would shut down. I like the old unit but ,I don't know if it's worth repairing.

That sounds like failing/failed capacitors in the power supply. I might be able to fix that but I'd have to look it over to be sure. PM me you contact info. I could look at it this week...
