I am going to be getting my tech license in the near future, and wanted to know if there any other ham operators on this site? I am starting small with a 4watt handy 2 band, 2 meter and 70cm. Also getting the study manual for the licensing test and then will setup to take it,
Any others interested in this?
Thanks in advance.

I've always wanted to get in Ham Radio but memorizing Morse Code dissuaded me. Now, I understand that Morse code is no longer required as of several years ago. I wonder what it costs to get into Ham Radio ...say with a starter outfit? In the fifties they had Heathkit and a few other companies, Oh, I wanted one of those rigs but I was poor and everyday poorer it seemed.

When my sister and I were kids, the old neighbor man was an ex Morse code operator back when that was about all they had for communications. Born in the late 1800's.
He was bedridden for several years, but my sis and and I would go talk to him through the screen window and he would teach us by tapping out the morse code on the window sill. We learned it pretty well, but he could go so fast we couldn't keep up. Lost art, but some on my shortwave radio still communicate with it.

You can get a 5 watt VHF/UHF HT for less than $30 now.

Believe it or not my issued call sign is KG5FUU. KG5VW is a member on here also. I have the Technician license. We have a local club in Ponca City. I let them use my SDA classroom to test new operators.
