I have an old laptop I pulled out of the closet that hasnt been touched in 5 years and I cant remember the password to get into the Windows 7 OS.
What are my options? Should I just use the damn thing for a target for my new .357 SW 66?

There are some utility cd's you might be able to boot to if you have a cd drive, that you can hack the password if it's not a complex password. I'm thinking at worst if it's the original hard drive, you might be able to do a full system restore, which will wipe out any data on it but if you haven't touched it in five years, there probably isn't anything you need. It would reset it so just like when it was new.

I used a bootable cd a few years ago to pull a pw, but I'm not quickly finding it again on the inter webs. It might take me a day or two, but I'll see if I can find it.

If you wanted to trust it to me for a few days, I wouldn't mind trying to hack it just for fun. I'm just outside Tulsa though so we'd have to figure out how to get it here and back. I completely understand if you don't want to do that though, and I'll keep looking for a utility in any case.

OPHCRACK!!! Yes, that's what I used. You should be able to set it up to boot from a thumb drive with some available instructions.

Honestly, I have no idea what "might" be on this computer. Could be anything from sensitive bank account stuff to pics of the ex old lady. I'm very protective of my bank stuff but IGAF about the pics LOL

What are my options? ...

One option might be:
When the login screen appears, try to login as "Administrator" without the quotes..
Using "Administrator" without the quotes as the password..

I don't know if you deleted/removed this login when you first set up the system.. If you didn't remove it, it should work.
If you did remove it, it's just a waste of 3 or 4 minutes to try it.

Do you need the files off the computer? or do you need to just USE the computer?
It's possible to salvage the files from the HDD, but in order to use the computer the operating system would need to be reinstalled.

Solution 1; rip files from hard drive and put on new comp
Solution 2; rip files from hard drive, reinstall windows, and put files back on hard drive.
