The rifle is a CVA APEX. It "was" a 308 Winchester in factory form, but I cut it back to an overall length of 3 1/2" and used it as a barrel stub, meaning that I took this short section of barrel and internally bored it, reamed it and threaded it. I then took a #5 Shilen Select Match grade stainless steel barrel blank, chambered and threaded it, and screwed it into the barrel stub till it butted up tight against the breech face. I then cut the extractor slot, cut the barrel to length and crowned it. Lastly, I drilled and tapped the barrel to accept the forend and then bead blasted the barrel.

This gun is chambered in 357 Maximum.

According to my customer, this bobcat was the first one he had ever seen out in the wild, and it was shot at 158 yards with a Speer 180 gr. Hot-Cor bullet.

The same gun and load accounted for 2 deer last year.

You've gotta' quit showing off all this stuff. You know you already had my interest up, and you just keep poking me!
Durn it, I've got bills to pay!

My apologies DRC458! :hypnotize:

I’ve heard of 357 Maximum for years but am unfamiliar with the ballistics. How does it compare to 350 Legend?

I have built 3 rifles so far, chambered in 350 Legend, and from Hornady's 140 gr. FTX to Speer's 180 gr . Hot-Cor, ballistics are nearly 100% identical!

This makes coyote #6 I’ve trapped on our lease this season. He got all twisted up in the fence trying to get out.

Went down south of I-40/Sayre/Erick yesterday and did some calling, hunted a mix of private and Sandy Sanders land, called some beautiful country, as well as being joined by the USAF. Only called 2 coyotes though, I shot one on 2nd stand (private land) that crawled away after the shot apparently (I watched it go down, thought it was done for!), then called another one up on Sanders that one of the other guys shot. Nice day to be out!

I’ve got some buddies that come up from Wynnewood and we spend a couple of weeks trapping. Due to the lousy weather and family obligations we wrapped up trapping camp today with 40 coyotes and 5 cats.

During a good camp, usually around 11-13 days, we’ve gotten 73 yotes and 13 cats.
