OK. Didn't the government "steal" the land for the land runs? My memory of Oklahoma history prompts me to say that the Sooners were simply hiding out to stake their "spot" first, not that they stole the land from the natives.

If I'm correct in that the government stole the land, then those "snowflakes" need to NEVER take any kind of assistance from the government.
Sooners were called Sooners because they went early to stake their claim of the land they wanted. They didn’t steal anyone’s land. You are correct.

This is no surprise. This kind of stuff will keep spreading everywhere. It’s part of the cancer that I speak of often that has infected so much of this nation. Just one of many reasons our country is being destroyed.

Sooners were actually cheaters, in that they didn't follow the rules. This resulted in a loss to other folks that DID follow the rules.

So if someone cheats in a poker game, they're not thieves when they win?

Not stealing it from Native Americans doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't stealing. Just a thought. :drunk2:

So the Unassigned Lands were Creek and Seminole lands ceded to the Union at the end of the Civil War.

That land was then opened for settlement by the Boomers and Sooners alike. If one is of the opinion that the land was stolen through the treaties, then all the settlers would be considered thieves by those sympathetic to the Creek and Seminole people.

Following the land runs, the Curtis Act assigned lands to the Native families, but also effectively identified land in Indian Country that was essentially shared land with no familial claim. That land was then opened to non native settlers, effectively taking from the Natives who enjoyed its common use.

Can you provide a source for this? I don't see anywhere that the chant was banned from games. Thanks
OU didn't ban it. The imbeciles on the freshman council did, and not for anyone else. From the article linked above:
Last September, the SGA passed and signed into our Code Annotated an Indigenous Land Acknowledgement that was meant to be more respectful of Indigenous history in Norman. In accordance with that Acknowledgement, this legislation allows us to be more cognizant of the language we are using within our organization. The Sooner Freshman Council falls under the Executive Branch in the Student Government Association and thus the mandate was given.

This is not a mandate for the University of Oklahoma, any affiliated departments/organizations, but simply a way to be more consistent with our own policies.
