Actually, it could be that he returns to the states and keeps a job in the foreign service. As for another ambassadorship, it would likely only come about by a subsequent president. Trump wouldn't likely nominate him for any other posts.

Apparently, he took the ambassadorship to the E.U. on a lark. He has no prior experience in the State Department. I bet he goes back to managing his billions and resuming his status as a nevertrumper who gave a million dollars to the Trump inaugural. Go figure

He's served in one capacity or another in every Republican administration since Reagan. He knows what can be published and what can't. If the White House prevents publication of the book, it won't keep him from talking, in fact it may encourage him to.
