I'm gonna steer clear of anything called San Diego jam.[emoji16]

Actually, my Dad taught me how to tie that knot when I was a young pup fifty years ago. We didn't have a fancy name for it but it always works.

Jimmy Houston does something similar except he doubles the line before going through the eye of the lure.

I always thought that was an improved clinch knot. I guess they thought the name wasn't cool enough.

"Uses: The San Diego Jam Knot is also known as the Reverse Clinch Knot and as the Heiliger Knot. The San Diego Jam Knot was popularized in San Diego particularly with long-range tuna fisherman. It is reasonably easy to tie at sea and is suitable for monofilament, braided, and fluorocarbon fishing lines."

San Diego Jam Knot

San Diego Jam Knot

This knot was popular only in the sport fishing capital of San Diego but later gained widespread recognition with anglers all over the world as an excellent knot. It attaches a line to a swivel, hook, artificial fly or clip. Also known as the reverse clinch or the Heiliger knot it can be tied with many types of fishing lines including fluorocarbon, monofilament and braided v/s the Palomar knot that is not as powerful with braid as it is with mono. It has won rave reviews with fishermen.
