Happy Mardi Gras....

Yea, I know I'm a little early but in G-Town(Galveston) they're already celebrating 14th-25th.

I've been so busy this new year that I completely forgot the celebration until my wife brought home a King Cake.

Man-Oh-Man....I've been sooooooo busy that I haven't even talked to my buddies in G-Town or even my buds in Lake Charles, La. Not attending Galveston's Mardi Gras this year and haven't been to Louisiana ....New Orleans in years.

Well.....here's to you and my "Southern" buddies in Louisiana and Galveston.

We have a Mardi Gras party to go to on Saturday night. Going with the widow of the couple we went with last year. :( She is doing well, but dang... hard to see her like that.

Wife and I spent Mardi Gras in NOL last year. Bucket list kinda thing. Would not do it again! Been to NOL several times but Mardi Gras was not fun at all. front row for main parade on Canal and did not like being hit in the face with beads and all kinds of crap being thrown from the floats.

Wife lived there as a kid. (drunk step dad)
She did not enjoy any of it. Rapists and drunks all on welfare.
I take it she did not like the place.

I've been to New Orleans once, and it was not during Mardi Gras. I am gonna' go back and, this time, my primary goal will be to stand in line as long as it takes to get into Preservation Hall. I was with some folks who were not near the music lover that I am. We stood outside for a little while and listened to the music but, I finally moved on because I knew they were not nearly as interested as I was. I will go back. And, I will get in to Preservation Hall.

Been to NO once with the wife. It was off season but there were some incredible blues bands playing in some of the local joints. Bourbon street was not for us. Way too much touristy rip off. The voodoo shop was interesting though. Wife bought one of the dolls and a couple of hat pins to keep on her work desk when someone pissed her off. Nobody know who it was directed at, but knew she was seriously pissed at someone.

I used to go to N'awlins a lot. I always had a good time but I never wanted to be there for Mardi Gras unless I could be up on one of the balconies and watch from above.

I was visiting friends in Metairie, which is near New Orleans, on St. Patrick's Day one year. The neighborhood parades and block parties were a lot of fun without all the craziness of Mardi Gras.

We use to go to New Orleans 3 or for 4 times a year. We had a yearly convention there in the Astor Hotel. It is on the corner of Canal and Bourbon street. And our kids lived there so we would go down to visit them during Mardi Gras. It gets really crazy during this time of year down there. But the parades are awesome!

We went with some friends a few years ago. Had a blast. Even marched in one of the unofficial parades that goes on between the big ones. It was called 'box of wine' and everyone marching had their own box(es) and poured them out to the onlookers.

Went to one of the neighborhood parades with our friend's sister and had a great time with their kids.

We were in the french quarter for the big day. It was freezing, but otherwise fun.

Only one time during the entire trip did we feel even slightly unsafe and that was because of friend was specific about when to make sure the car doors were locked during a trip across town. Otherwise it was fine.
