HAHA!
1 Covid death in OK and we shut down businesses. Meanwhile 16 Flu deaths. Hmmm.
Whats the real story to this.
Economically crippling our country give complete power to some, and none to others.
Think about that.

Okay, I thought about it. Its the WHOLE WORLD. And its the POTENTIAL. Take the tin foil off man. This not some goofy conspiracy. Flu symptoms may take 1-4 days to show up. CV can take 14. Think how many you could infect in 14 days without knowing.

Seriously, please stop with the conspiracy things. The whole world is at a slow down because of the POTENTIAL of thousands of dead. These ideas only undermine the seriousness of the threat.

I am going to start moving conspiracy threads and posts to Hot Topics and am asking the other Mods to do so too.

Kansas is closing the buildings. Kansas has a plan in place for continued learning...most likely through remote classes.
Many district in California are producing online lessons and instruction during currently and will continue doing so after their spring breaks.
The plan for education here in Oklahoma is to continue learning if it is at all feasible. I don't think we know exactly what that looks like right now. Good thing for us is that we're on break and have a bit of a buffer.

Maybe, but all I know is that our economy and the world economy is being crippled. Again, the fastest way out of this is to reduce the number of new cases and to restore public confidence. If that means accepting a short term duration of reducing the number associated with public gatherings then it’s a small price to pay compared to a prolonged economic shutdown. Thankfully, it doesn’t really effect me since I’m retired and was fully in cash and bonds at the end of December. But, I know this has got to be hard on businesses and their employees losing jobs, and on retirees depending on fixed income from investments. There are many people suffering right now and whatever can be done from a social responsibility standpoint to quickly stop the wrecking of our economy is good with me.

Ouch ...hopefully your examples are somewhat worse than the norm...I think you might want to talk about certain disciples rather than tarring every discipline with the same brush...
Picture those people standing behind the President when he is talking about how the epidemic is being fought...how many do your think have Ph.D's?. ...I'd guess 100% or close to it...I could be wrong...

"When does this end??"
Never
Things will never return to normal. We are looking at some permanent changes in societal norms.

But on the positive side, the FDA just approved use of Chloroquine for use with seriously ill patients (on a test basis)....This is a cheap and widely used drug..been around for many decades. I took it for two years in the 70's as an anti-malarial. Yipee. Hopefully it will be approved for wider use soon. Bayer is donating millions of pills to the fight...for use in Europe and elsewhere (?)

The main reason this is such a big deal is that the coronavirus is far more contagious than the flu. With the flu, one person will infect on average 1.3 other people whereas the one person infected with the coronavirus will infect on average 2.2 other people.

And yes, more people die annually from the flu, however the mortality rate for those infected with the flu is roughly .1%. The number of people who die is higher because the flu is far more wide spread annually. The higher number of people infected results in a higher number of deaths, even at .1%.

That said, the mortality rate for the coronavirus has been about 1.4% globally. The only reason the flu related deaths are higher than the coronavirus related deaths is because fewer people have been infected by the coronavirus thus far.

So excluding third world countries and assuming we have better healthcare in the US than many of these other countries, let’s say we get the coronavirus mortality rate down to the same as the flu, being .1%, the fact that the infection rate is almost double that of the flu, simple math explains why this is such a big deal. If not contained, it will lead to more deaths.
