THURSDAY, MARCH 26, 2020

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva took to twitter to announce he is once again ordering the closure of guns stores to almost all retail traffic. What a f*cking joke of a person in an elected position to flim flam. Not suprising though, they did the same thing for like a week on 30 round AR mags. Over the course of just a few days California bought up pretty much all the stock in the entire country. Then they went back to making them illegal again.

Breaking: NRA & Other Groups Sue California
Coalition Files Federal Lawsuit Against
Los Angeles Sheriff Villanueva, California Gov. Gavin Newsom Over Constitutional Violations

Today, the National Rifle Association (NRA) joined individuals, retailers, and other gun rights groups in filing a federal lawsuit challenging state and local policies and enforcement practices that violate Second and Fourteenth Amendment rights. The gun rights groups includes the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), the California Gun Rights Foundation (CGF), and the Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC). A copy of the lawsuit can be found here.

“Municipalities who target lawful gun stores for closure aren’t promoting safety—by weaponizing their politics to disarm you and your loved ones, these shameless partisans are recklessly promoting a gun-control agenda that suffocates your self-defense rights when you need them most," said NRA-ILA Executive Director, Jason Ouimet. "NRA members recognize these unlawful power-grabs for what they are, and the National Rifle Association is proud to stand and fight alongside fellow Second Amendment groups who recognize it, as well.”

“California’s attack on fundamental rights in times of emergency must be stopped in its tracks,” observed SAF founder and Executive Vice President, Alan Gottlieb. “This case is part of our mission to win firearms freedom one lawsuit at a time. And more, the lawsuits we are filing across the country are making a large number of other states, counties, and cities think twice before closing down essential gun stores.”

“Twenty-eight years ago, the LAPD had to withdraw their officers to protect their safety. We hope that the stay-home orders will mean that our public servants will not become infected in this pandemic, but the Constitution guarantees that everyone has a right to acquire arms and defend themselves should law enforcement not be able to respond before it’s too late,” remarked CGF Chairman, Gene Hoffman. “No petty autocrat can be allowed to suspend the Bill of Rights.”

“Especially due to the restrictive nature of California’s Byzantine gun laws that require the use of licensed dealers to buy and transfer both firearms and ammunition, the defendants’ orders and actions challenged individually and collectively violate the Constitution and individuals’ fundamental rights to keep and bear arms and due process of law,” explained attorney and FPC Director of Legal Strategy, Adam Kraut. “These irrational and outrageous fiat restrictions cannot withstand constitutional scrutiny and must be enjoined from enforcement.”

“California’s State and local governments cannot simply suspend the Constitution,” FPC President Brandon Combs said. “This case is one of many actions FPC is taking around the United States to fight for liberty and freedom. The entire FPC team has been and will remain all-hands-on-deck, working around the clock on important efforts to safeguard the People's individual liberties and property, especially the rights to keep and bear arms, free speech, privacy, and due process. FPC is fully committed to uniting the advocacy space and partnering with organizations and law firms around the country to fight government abuses and defend the People's right to defend their lives and homes. We especially wish to recognize and thank our incredible members and supporters who make all of our legal action, research, and grassroots activism programs possible.”

Individual arms applicants/purchasers and retailers affected by ‘stay-home’ or shutdown orders can report potential civil rights violations to the NRA-ILA COVID-19 Contact Form.

Second Amendment Foundation (http://www.saf.org) is the nation’s oldest and largest tax-exempt education, research, publishing, and legal action group focusing on the Constitutional right and heritage to privately own and possess firearms. Founded in 1974, The Foundation has grown to more than 650,000 members and supporters and conducts many programs designed to better inform the public about the consequences of gun control.

California Gun Rights Foundation (http://www.cagunrights.org) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that serves its members, supporters, and the public through educational, cultural, and judicial efforts to advance Second Amendment and related civil rights.

Firearms Policy Coalition (http://www.firearmspolicy.org) is a 501(c)4 grassroots nonprofit organization. FPC’s mission is to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, especially the fundamental, individual Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, advance individual liberty, and restore freedom.

Dr. Phil says the word "but" means, forget what I just said, now I'll tell you what I really think.

Dr. Phil had this jackwagon on his show today. Valuing my mental health, I didn't watch every minute of it. I didn't catch whether they talked about the stores being closed.

Dr. Phil is concerned about all the first time gun owners buying guns in a panic, and how traumatized they would be if the actually shot someone, and how it's better to leave that to the professionals.

Yesterday he talked briefly about how more suicides are successful when a firearm is used, so he hates to see all these first time gun owners having guns in the house.
He did say please store them responsibly, he didn't come out and say don't have a gun in the house.

I think I remember him saying he has a carry license, but that was a couple of years ago.

This jackhole Sheriff got elected about two years ago and from just about the first week he started doing some real shady chit. Very few people in city/county govt like or support him. He's unscrupulous trash and should be run out of town on the next election.

LA County Sheriff Retracts Orders Closing Gun Stores
March 30, 2020 at 8:34 pm

In a statement, the Sheriff wrote in part,

“On March 28, 2020, the United States Department of Homeland Security issued an Advisory Memorandum in regard to Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers during COVID-19 response. Although explicitly advisory in nature, nonetheless the federal memorandum is persuasive given the national scope. Included in the list of essential critical infrastructure workers are workers supporting the operation of firearm or ammunition product manufacturers, retailers, importers, distributors, and shooting ranges.”

“Based on further input by the federal government, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will not order or recommend closure of businesses that sell or repair firearms or sell ammunition.”

Once upon a time I remember folks jumping on the "Sheriffs are the answer to out of control government"...touting their authority and ability to act as the highest elected law enforcement authority in the county and touting their ability to ignore bad law and policy. Yada. Yada. "Sheriffs will save America!".

This is a real life example of why I thought it was a stupid idea then.

Sheriffs are politicians...in many cases with even bigger egos and more power. They need to be reigned in and restricted just like their suited cousins.

District Attorneys can be just a wee bit higher on that list.
