Thanks, and I join in the sentiments for all those that served in that "dirty little war:
I didn't serve in Vietnam, but did during the "Vietnam era." Have met many a man since that paid some kind of price for that. When I find one that laments the loss of the country, I just say that the media and politicians are who surrendered, not the veterans.
The "goal" of it all was not to "win" a war but to stem the spread of communisim. As long as American combat troops were "in country" that goal was met. When what is now Vietnam was divided into north and south there were to be elections countrywide within 2 years, that never occurred.
As a result, the "North" atacked the south and a war of attrition ensued, which was eventually won by the North only after American troops withdrew.
