Are you folks that are getting delayed, etc using the personal ID thing? Can't remember what they call it. I always get delayed for a day or two. I was told to get that and probably wouldn't be delayed again, but these are different times.
Dennis, the UPIN (Unique Personal Identification Number) used to mean that a person formerly delayed (before they got a UPIN) would only get a "further review", which could generally be resolved in a matter of minutes. Because of the COVID-19 gun buying craze, the ATF has adopted a new procedure that results in all "further review" status folks being delayed regardless. A UPIN (which always leads to "further review") would be of no help under the temporary policy lately adopted by the ATF.

Thanks! I wondered if that would happen. Didn't want to put out the extra money to get the UPIN if it wasn't going to accomplish anything.

You are welcome. To clarify, under normal conditions, a UPIN would mean that you might spend 4-5 minutes waiting for a "Proceed" from the NICS examiner, rather than waiting 1-6 days on "delay". I'm hoping things get back to normal before too long....

Just show my handgun license, fill out the form, and walk! Bought a Glock in like 7 minutes.

Wish it worked like that in Oklahoma, but it doesn't.
Dave

Then you are not a resident of Edmond any longer.
:)
If Mr. vdub maintains residences in two states (Oklahoma and one other), and the other state allows that procedure, it could work that way. But not, as ratski said, in OK.

It looks like you guys have already answered but just to clarify. I personally get further review every time. So under the new policy I would simply get delayed every time now?

That's important to know since I was planning on buying a new 10/22 today. If so, I'll make sure to buy it from a dealer I know will release it Thursday regardless. One who also knows I have my CCW and they always go through.

I sailed right through on a purchase on the 13th. It looks like my timing was really good on that purchase which is good because that was one I actually had to save up for.

I personally don't mind a few minutes of background checking but the times I have to come back later and leave empty handed really feel pretty un-American.

Let us know. But, it sounds like you are in the same situation as me.

Timing has a lot to do with it. If you initiate the transaction at a peak time, you may get delayed. Their electronic system can only handle so much at once. If it goes into research mode during a peak time and takes 10 minutes or longer, it defaults to delay. Early bird gets the worm.
