That seems to be the initial reports from integrs hospital and I hear NY and a few other hot spots are seeing a slight decline in new patients and deaths.

NY was stable for two days. Big spike again on the 7th.
Other cities are somewhat stable. California is shipping ventilators to other states that need them as they have a surplus.

Sorry but looking at day to day numbers is not likely to yield a reliable picture. Keep your seat belt on. Absolutely it will get better. But we must have people wearing masks everywhere in public crowds
before I believe we can truly turn the corner imo.

if areas are successful at 'flattening the curve' then things should appear more level since the big push was to spread out/slow infections and avoid overwhelming spikes.

But, as i'm sure you already know, working with a 14-17 day incubation period makes it hard to get the reliable picture Dale mentioned. Positive tests now reflect things two weeks ago. Many places aren't under stay at home orders, so if a sick person from one of those (or from your own) areas traveled to your town in the past two weeks then the chance for another wave is still high.

Lack of significant testing also skews things as (at least here and likely many other places) tests aren't available to everyone. Many people are still being told to only get tested if their condition worsens. So there is a good chance people are still getting sick, but aren't reflected in the numbers since the only reflect the portion of the population tested.

The number of deaths is what I am focused on. If that number declines, I can draw a better conclusion. fewer infected, better treatment...you know, the bottom line.

True, but 'the bottom line' is still pretty fluid since there are many variables that play into how many die. Many are cautioning about relaxing the approach since it 'doesn't seem so bad'. Knowing why things seem better, and how the countermeasures are working, is important. I believe it was hong kong that recently saw a second wave of infections.

As i, and many others keep sayings (and as you likely know, too), the number of dead will ultimately depend on how we manage the rate of infection to allow for the better treatment you mentioned.
