Not if you and your spouse make under $20,000.00 extra income together or under $10,000.00 separately.
OK. Good to know. Sister-in-law mentioned the other day that she had to file this last year because she sold her house, thus making her have to file again after several years. I was concerned that the "change" in income might flag the IRS to audit her.
The last time we filed, our accountant told us the IRS would actually rather you don't file if there's no requirement. Less needless paperwork for them.
I sent about half that . . . fun times.
I think I fell under the Fed not having to file, SS and small pension only, sold less than $2K of stock to get off my list. But I went ahead and filled because I was not sure where the stock sale would put me. I paid $0 in on any of it. But for some reason I am getting $40 back from the state. Hell, I'll take it.
Still waiting to see how much I owe to fund all these stimulus checks for everyone else.
