Middle of last year, I test-fired one at Wilshire Gun. It fit my medium-sized hand well, and it's a very smooth shooting pistol. High-quality firearm, but new ones are a bit expensive.

I've never even held one but, like some other replies stated H&K's are some of the best firearms made. The MP5 submachine gun is the standard all others are judged by. It dates back to 1964. The PSG-1 is one of the best semiautomatic sniper rifles made. The G36 assault rifle is considered to be one of the best. The USP line of pistols are still used by elite military units around the world and they date back to around 1995. I had ( until the boat sank ) a USP 9 full-size, USP 9 compact, a USP 45 compact, a USP Tactical .45acp, a USP Expert .45acp, and two SL8-1's .223. I don't usually pass on a good deal on a H&K.

The only practical experience with HK is with there USP series; specifically the USP Tactical .45ACP; it functions and shoots well ( from my light reloads. to factory loads; flat nose; round nose; hollow points.

The only problem I ran into was the thread protector -- The USP Tactical came with a threaded barrel -- the firearm (I bought new) did not come with a thread protector -- I bought the factory protector from HK (from the webstore) -- After a inactive time in my gun safe, I pulled the firearm out and the thread protector was stuck -- I couldn’t get it off -- tried everything; kroil oil; strap wrench; even pliers -- I didn’t use to much tension, because the barrel was still mounted ( can get the barrel off, the thread protector was in the way). Talking to the HK representative at Sports World open house; he recommended taking it to the gunsmith at Sports World (Excellent Store; selection, price and sales staff) in Tulsa -- He took care of my problem fast. I keep the protector I butchered in the case as a reminder.

Lots of options and accessories:

HK parts:

HK webstore:

Can’t be a true HK fan without a HK hockey puck and metal sign !!!!!

The HK trailer hitch was a bit much:

I found a cheaper older plastic version on Ebay for $20.

I broke the MP5 I shot. Was flailing away at an car and the extractor broke clean off. Took 20 minutes to get the thing apart and required a detail disassembly the gun (loaded). :yikes2: In it's defense the owner was running Tula steel cased crap ammo in it.

To the OP, the VP9 isn't even comparable to any other striker fired handgun I've ever had. It has the typical German engineering which means "extreme overkill". The materials, machining and build quality are in a league all it's own. It's utterly bombproof in comparison to all other striker fired guns I've handled.

I went ahead and traded off my VP9. Shot it this past weekend and really loved it. Trigger was awesome. Recoil was meh! Just can't get used to the paddle mag release. Going to try for a B model with push button mag release.

I shoot the piss out of my vp9 with paddle mags. I watched a video and got better at using the paddles but can use a lot of practice. Great gun, I shoot it as well as a glock 19, maybe better, but the same as i can tell. Feel is much better than the glock and adaptability is awesome.

It's going to eventually replace my Glock 17 Gillie as the bump in the night weapon, I tried and tried, but I get thrown off on the paddles. What's crazy is I used shoot USPSA with a USP40 Jet Funnel and did well.

The way the VP9 fits me has me addicted though.

Haven't shot my vp9 as much as I would like but it is a great shooter and have considered making it the every day carry replacing the g19.
