I see "probability" and "likely", not proven. Were any of the droplets examined to show the presence of the SARS virus and if so, did any of these viruses in the droplets survive during or after the dehydration? How closely are the SARS virus and the covid19 virus related? Were any of the speech droplets from symptomatic cases tested? Has this same speech droplets test been conducted on people who have the covid19, either symptomatic or asymptomatic, or is it just assumed that the covid19 is spread in this same manner?

Regardles, if the covid can be transmitted via loud speech, screw the masks and just talk softly. Keep the air in enclosed spaces warm and dry. YMMV.

SARS COV-2 is the same virus as COVID-19. All scientific research uses terms of "probability" and "likely", especially early in the research.

Health care worker and her 15 friends have COVID-19 after choosing to party without masks or social distancing. The virus doesn't take a holiday, it doesn't care that you have "pandemic fatigue".
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – Erika Crisp has been short of breath for several days and has tested positive for COVID-19. So have more than a dozen of her friends. The one thing they all had in common: a night out at Lynch's Irish Pub on June 6 in Jacksonville Beach.

Crisp, a 40-year-old health care worker from Jacksonville, said she’s been sick for eight days, and 15 of her friends have also tested positive for COVID-19....Crisp said she and her friends had been careful with social distancing and had stayed indoors for months “doing everything the right way.” “And then the first night we go out, Murphy’s Law, I guess,” Crisp said. “The only thing we have in common is that one night at that one bar.”

Crisp said she regrets going out to celebrate after months of quarantining. “I think we were careless and we went out into a public place when we should not have. And we were not wearing masks. I think we had a whole 'Out of sight, out of mind' mentality. The state opens back up and said everybody was fine, so we took advantage of that,” Crisp said. She said it's a lesson for everyone.

“We should be wearing masks. We should be social distancing,” Crisp said.

Here is a link from the National Academy of Sciences to an applicable study.

https://www.pnas.org/content/117/22/11875

Abstract:

"Speech droplets generated by asymptomatic carriers of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are increasingly considered to be a likely mode of disease transmission. Highly sensitive laser light scattering observations have revealed that loud speech can emit thousands of oral fluid droplets per second. In a closed, stagnant air environment, they disappear from the window of view with time constants in the range of 8 to 14 min, which corresponds to droplet nuclei of ca. 4 μm diameter, or 12- to 21-μm droplets prior to dehydration. These observations confirm that there is a substantial probability that normal speaking causes airborne virus transmission in confined environments."

That is actually a very good study. However, if you reference the notation and follow the "asymptomatic" aspect in viral shedding. That study isn't nearly as complete to say the least. So if someone is symptomatic and full blown, I get it. However, that (7) leaves out an important part of the puzzle.

There is no doubt that much is still unknown about this virus. However, there are some very smart people working on it everyday. Research is producing better treatment options and greater understanding - it looks like blood type might play a role in the severity of illness and steroids appear promising. My thought is do what we can (wear masks, distancing, etc.) and go about a somewhat normal life until the scientist and medical professionals have a grasp on this virus. I just don't see how simple actions by the public to "buy some time" for research and treatment is that much of a burden.

If you’re afraid you might get it, stay home. Plenty of contactless delivery options available for anything you might need. Took my 83 year old dad to Norman Regional Hospital last week for a minor surgery. They checked our temp as we entered and required masks. As we waited, I saw 5 different hospital employees not wearing masks. Several more were not wearing them properly.

Masks are a joke, most aren’t worn properly, and people wearing them don’t have to be in the places they are wearing them. My neighbor is a prime example, elderly man and he was complaining about going out to eat at Charleston’s and how few customers were wearing masks. I asked him if he had some type of mask you could shove food through and he said no, he took it off to eat. I guess a trip to Charleston’s was essential.

I've seen the same thing - people half-ass wearing face masks. Why? If you are going to wear one then why not wear it properly. As far as the restaurants, distancing from others should work as long as the wait staff is properly wearing their mask.

The current state of mask wearing is a joke (not covering mouth and/or nose)..... but properly worn masks are not a joke: they are an inexpensive, effective method of greatly reducing transmission of the virus to others. (See the study I cited earlier in this thread)

Scenario: A Trump supporter attends the rally and cheers for the President without a properly worn mask. A few days later the supporter becomes obviously ill with COVID. The rate of transmission spikes and contact tracing identifies the rally as the source.
Question: How dumb is this fellow and the dozens of others like him or her going to feel for harming others and for making Trump look bad?

My wife spent 5 days in the hospital May 6-10 and I could not believe all of the staff I saw and came into contact with who did not wear masks. They always put on gloves but some never wore a mask the whole time we were there.

That was more than a month ago. I'd be surprised if that was the case today. The medical appointments I've been to recently are over the top with masks, gloves, face shields, thermometers, sit in the parking lot until called, etc.

I thought the mask was to protect others? Why would the supporter not wearing a mask get ill? From another supporter not wearing a mask? If someone fears getting sick they shouldn’t attend the rally or do anything else in public. Plenty of options to totally avoid contact with other humans for those fearful of getting sick. When they stop allowing protesters and Home Depot shoppers to mingle, they can worry about a Trump rally.
