I use the emergency road service from my vehicle insurance company...inexpensive, no problems with it

Same here. Insurance provides roadside assistance already. OP might check your policy and see....I didn't even realize I had it for years lol.

I remembered this thread and thought I would share my recent experience.
Sunday afternoon I was down on Lake Eufaula at Longtown and had a flat on my truck at Dollar General. I’ve been paying for AAA for years and have only used it a few times so I decided I would let them change my tire. I call and they take all the necessary information and I also gave them the actual physical address. They say probably 15 minutes but an hour max to get someone there. They also said the technician would call when they were within 15 minutes. I kick back and wait. An hour goes by and nobody is here so I called back. The dude on the phone say the technician has posted he is on site. Nope not on site I say. I’m wondering why he didn’t call if he was on site? Anyway he says he’ll check and get back with me. Another 15 minutes goes by and they call back and say he’s 15 minutes away. So a hour and a half wait and he shows up limping around. First thing out of his pie hole is he can’t get my spare out from under my truck because he is physically impaired. Great I think. I should have just done it myself. So now I’m doing most of the heavy work and he’s getting all the credit. Nobody from AAA ever contacted me to make sure I was taken care of. Anyway just wanted to share. It’s apparently not the AAA it used to be.

I drive a 2018 Toyota and have AAA and have never used it and probably won't. I replace my tire when it's needed and it's aToyota. But I can afford the $54 per year for AAA in case..but what could go wrong with a Toyota?

This is pretty common to on-site work. I'm friends with a ton of ISP/cable techs locally, and it's a way they can sponge time. Had one come out on a Saturday once to troubleshoot, he was there for about nine minutes. Found out at the next lunch he marked down he was there for two hours. Got his long lunch paid for in overtime. No telling how much it costs companies across the US in time theft. Last I heard, they were all fighting a push to GPS mark service vehicles and company phones at regular intervals throughout the day.

Many of them are now made in this country and (saddens me to say this) therefore in MY OPINION, they are not near the automobile they used to be.
The new ones I've seen come with cheap battery, cheap tires, etc.

Sounds like you got a "contractor" that AAA hired for the location and time. For Example, I'm in Oklahoma City and most, but not all of the drivers/techs are actually AAA employees driving AAA owned equipment. In more rural areas AAA, and the car insurance policy you have will just refer the task to whoever they can get to go. Often those are just locally owned wrecker services and NOT AAA employees.

I had a flat tire last fall in OKC at I-40/Reno & MacArthur. When I made the call and hung up, the fantastic young man with David's Towing, an independly owned company but contracted to AAA, showed up in 4 minutes and got started on my flat. 3 Minutes later a AAA guy showed up to take care of me, but was obviously not needed. The 1st guy got my tire changed and flat put back in my trunk in less than 4 minutes and departed.

Yeah, I try to avoid trying to change flat tires, I'm now a senior citizen and have some issues with manual labor, unlike when I was younger, so it's easier to get it taken care of than me having to go see the Chiropractor for awhile. You younger guys should remember that while you're still young, take care of your back and body.

I can tell you for a fact that the AAA drivers/techs who are employeed by AAA are closely monitored and graded. I can also tell you that the "contractors" here in OKC are also closely monitored and graded. Out in the more rural areas, well your kinda out on your own anyway.

Manual Labor...? I thought that was the name of the president of Mexico? I've never done that then.... :rollingla
