Good evening all. I expect there are a few former service members here so I wanted to pose a question about what plans of dental insurance folks might be happy with. Before the change a year ago or maybe it's going on two, I used Delta Dental and was fairly ok with coverage and copays. Since Delta stopped being supported I opted for Met Life Dental coverage. Met Life Dental has been fairly disappointing and want to convert to some other coverage that provides better routine dental care for myself and family members. I haven't used MetLife for anything serious, probably fortunately in that regard, as the routine stuff as been pretty dismal. Thanks for any experience provided from the at large. I would think Snoopy would leave a steamy surprise in Met Life's shoe if he could.

As a veteran I've found that I'm not using any insurance for dental care after retiring.
What ever the monthly fees would have been go into a savings account for major dental work if some is needed.
You can negotiate cash only with the dental clinic so you pay cash for every cleaning, etc and its not terribly bad at all.
Like anything else, one must shop around for the best cash only clinics. If there is a crown or something more serious, you can still negotiate cash only prices and use your savings account to pay all or part of the procedure. Self insured is the way we go.

RC508pir, in my case, DD was 10 dollars then maybe 12 dollars. Wife and child might have been 30 apiece.

With ML mine has been like 60 or 70, don't remember the family's figures, I should probably go look instead of talking out my fourth point of contact, but two days ago I opened a 227 dollar bill for cleaning of the family members with kids teeth being sealed which was suggested that would be covered.

The three of us get cleanings every six months.

Call the office Manager or Dentist and discuss it with them.
Explain the situation and what you were lead to believe or told the cost Or coverage would be.

As a service member, do you have a VA disability rating?
Many do not realize is that a rating of 100% carries full dental coverage with it.

Dave
Correct. If under 100% you can still get dental work done by the VA. I'm not sure how it works. Don't know if its at the level of disability or how it works, but the VA does offer dental for those without 100% rating. Eye glasses as well.
