Nice piggie!

Thanks! That means a lot coming from the master.
There were some seriously large hogs out there. I thought this one was smaller than it was because standing next to the Huge boar. Saw another boar wade across the red river, at first I thought it was a lost calf.

Kaw Lake WMA is shut down for pig hunting. The USDA that regulates pigs in Ok has shut it down for a pilot experiment to test new ways of eradication.

Several WMA have a lot of pigs. Some WMA have regulations that differ from other WMA. Some only allow a weapon that is legal for an open season on the WMA.

I’ll have to do some research. I prefer the private area approach, I hate running into people, but I imagine off season is pretty quiet.

Got in touch with an old buddy, went and snagged myself a sow! Hopefully this becomes a regular thing. Is there any luck to be had chasing pigs on WMA land?

To do: build a decent field rifle that doesn’t weight as much as a signaling cannon

You said you don't have money for a lease. Skip the building of a new pig gun, save the cash and save for a lease. Like anything in life it's not what you know but who you know. Networking is going to be everything for you and trust is going to be everything for them.

a solid point. I appreciate the honesty. Any good ways to find leases?

Like I said, Networking. Obviously I don't know you but what do you like to do? Hobbies? Do you fish, play cards, shoot three gun, rodeo, off road? Whatever your hobbies or passions then join their relevant groups, teams, events, etc. and start networking. It's not going to happen overnight.

Lastly, have you heard the phrase in politics - " I never got a job from a poor person"? Thinking out loud here, but if you are looking to lease a sizeable piece of property you need to hang out with the "right people" or at least network with the "right people". I hope this helps and wish you luck.

I've only been on two leases ever. The local one, there were 5 of us, me and one other guy were the only ones that didn't have OU or OSU season tickets lol. Guess which two of us had pretty much the whole place to ourselves during the fall lol. The other one was a giant lease in SE OK quite a few people, I only had it for a chance at a bear. Never saw another person that I recall other than the guy that I knew who lived nearby when we scouted.

I’ve actually never paid for a lease myself. My Dad and Granddad got us on a big timber company lease back in the early 80’s when there was just starting to be a huntable deer population again in east TX, and we leased some property from a friend in the late 80’s and early 90’s. I was young and broke, so my Dad and Granddad footed the bill. It wasn’t but like $2.00-3.00 per acre in east TX back then, but it’s at least 3-4 times that now. My parents bought some land and built a house in the mid 90’s, so our leasing days ended. By the early 2000’s, my Dad started investing in OK land.
When I first started deer hunting in the early 80’s, in my wildest dreams, I couldn’t have imagined the hunting opportunities I’ve had and the bucks I’ve seen and killed over the last almost 40 years.
