I do think we need the NRA to get their act together and stay in operation. They definitely carry more clout than a new group could build in years and years.

Correct on both counts, but LaPierre has used his tenure to surreptitiously restructure the hierarchy of organization so that your latter point will never happen. The board are mere sycophants who rubber stamp LaPierre's extravagance. The only way to get him out is for him to voluntarily step down, and no grifter willingly abandons the con.
They did the same thing to me about 3 years ago when I renewed. So I called them,and they informed me that they had no record of my renewal. I told them I had the check that they cashed in my hand. I got my duffel bag by the end of the week.
I have seen that they file a lot of stuff but have never seen them win anything to speak of. I have also never heard the Democrats complain about them.
If the NRA was as bad as some of you seem to think, the NY AG would have no interest in disbanding them.
When your concern is really that 4-5 top executives are misappropriating funds, you go after the top 4-5 executives to PROTECT the organization. You do not disband the entire organization to protect the organization.
This is an obvious political move to get rid of the NRA because the NRA makes it harder to enact their agenda. Liberal anti-gun politicians hate the NRA, there's probably a reason for that.
Having said that, there are some apparent problems in the NRA that need to be addressed, and it seems very little is being done about it. I can't find anything now, but I looked into GOA a few years ago, and decided not to join because there were some rumors and questions about them. They may be just fine, but having multiple organizations in the fight is not a bad thing. Join both. Or join the one you like better. But trying to destroy the one you like less doesn't help anything.
BTW... the NRA agreed to the NICS instant background check because the alternative was a 2 week waiting period. The NRA opposed that and said background checks ONLY if they are instant. You can hate them for that, but except for the NRA it would probably have been worse.

The top 4 or 5 should have been ousted long ago. And since the rest of the NRA leadership failed to do that, some anti-gun POS is going to do it.
And what would have happened if the NRA said no, we oppose ANY infringements?
Maybe they lose? I'd rather see them fight and lose as to not fight at all. Perhaps by compromising, they can keep friends, and keep enjoying the perks of lobbying in the most criminal town in America.
The NRA reminds me of the Wounded Warrior Project fiasco back in 2016. Wounded Warrior cleaned their house, fired the offending execs and seems to doing well now. I agree that Wayne La(pping up the money)Pierre needs to go.
