I didn't know there were "non-tribal" bingo or gambling places in Oklahoma.

How about all the smokeshops I see driving up to Tulsa everywhere ? I guess i always thought those were somehow owned and operated by the different tribes and that's how they got some cheaper cigs and stuff.

If the NRA was as bad as some of you seem to think, the NY AG would have no interest in disbanding them.

When your concern is really that 4-5 top executives are misappropriating funds, you go after the top 4-5 executives to PROTECT the organization. You do not disband the entire organization to protect the organization.

This is an obvious political move to get rid of the NRA because the NRA makes it harder to enact their agenda. Liberal anti-gun politicians hate the NRA, there's probably a reason for that.

Having said that, there are some apparent problems in the NRA that need to be addressed, and it seems very little is being done about it. I can't find anything now, but I looked into GOA a few years ago, and decided not to join because there were some rumors and questions about them. They may be just fine, but having multiple organizations in the fight is not a bad thing. Join both. Or join the one you like better. But trying to destroy the one you like less doesn't help anything.

BTW... the NRA agreed to the NICS instant background check because the alternative was a 2 week waiting period. The NRA opposed that and said background checks ONLY if they are instant. You can hate them for that, but except for the NRA it would probably have been worse.

“Going after the top 4 or 5 “ has been attempted several times but as one member here posted he has rigged the board in his favor and those attempts have all failed. I’m not in favor of disbanding the NRA either BUT it will be a cold day in hell before that leadership EVER gets another penny of my money. Those trying to form new organizations have also had it with that group which is why they are trying to form a new one. Read up on what presentNRA leadership have done to the attempts to form something new. Reminds me of what Hitler did to opposition in Germany. Awful just awful.

The top 4 or 5 should have been ousted long ago. And since the rest of the NRA leadership failed to do that, some anti-gun POS is going to do it.

I agree. The NRA has some issues and they need to be fixed, and I said that.
And what would have happened if the NRA said no, we oppose ANY infringements?
You would probably have a two week delay on every gun you purchase to allow time for your background check to go through. Did GOA take a no-compromise position on this? How did that work out?

That's a rhetorical question... they didn't exist when it was passed, but they did when it was instituted. I assume other gun groups existed though and probably took a no-compromise approach... if they did, they were not successful.

You are free to support GOA or whoever else you like without hating the NRA, as far as I'm concerned the more allies the better. If you want to see the NRA destroyed though, you have allied yourself with the New York Attorney General. How does that feel?

Let me ask again... If the NY AG is concerned about some leadership individuals misappropriating funds, why wouldn't they prosecute those individuals rather than try to disband the entire organization? My answer is they hate the organization because they are an obstacle to their agenda. Not a perfect obstacle, but the more obstacles the better.

I guess I missed the posters who said they wanted to see the NRA destroyed.

I'll let people who feel that way speak for themselves, but skimming back through this thread I see one subtle suggestion that they be allowed to fold, and one not so subtle expression that they should fold. I've seen it in other threads over a period of time, but I doubt I can find them.

Unless I misunderstood what they were saying, there should be a couple along any time now saying they'd prefer the NRA be shut down.

"Destroyed" is my word, for emphasis.

That is just your opinion. I am no longer a member of the NRA to protest some of the corruption and the hundreds of calls asking for money, but I do donate to the legal fund. The way you were talking it sounded like you were not even a member of the NRA, just the GOA.

Personally I am waiting to see the GOA file a bunch of lawsuits against anti-gun laws or political types. So far all I have heard from them is talk and donate to us.
I am a life member of the NRA and a patriot level member of the GOA. The GOA filed lawsuits all the time. They are the ones challenging the bumpstock ban that the NRA helped push. They have also filed numerous amicus briefs and lawsuits. They post in their website everything they do. And they send out emails all the time. I suggest getting on there and signing up to get the emails. You don’t have to be a member. They will also send you pre written cards for you to sign to send in to the Whitehorse and senators and reps from time to time. Plus you can do their pre written letters on their site. In one of these card mail outs the Whitehouse received over a million of the signed cards. Plus they have representatives in every state to keep and ear to the ground on state issues. They have done a lot for the 2A. And Eric Pratt goes on shows all the time to fight for the 2A. He also goes to rallies and to Capitol Hill a lot. They do far more than the NRA with far less money.

the GOA doesn't try to seduce people with swag like the NRA does ALL THE TIME, and I get pretty sick of it. I'm guessing vendors give the swag to the NRA for a tax deduction, but I'd rather they just give money to the NRA, I've got enough knives and hats.
I renewed my NRA membership early a couple of months ago when they called to help them out of whatever the current emergency was.
Earlier in this thread I suggested maybe it's time for the NRA to fail, if that's what it takes to get gun owners organized and paying attention, ok.

This is one small thing wayne has done to pack the board. This website has followed the legal filings by both sides, and the commentary seems to be neutral, with a tone of- “malfeasance has occurred”. Which it obviously has. Millions have been misused. Nonprofits have regulations to follow. There are guidelines for good stewardship and accounting of funds. The NRA has committed malfeasance and misused funds. The attorney general would have no leverage if improprieties had not taken place. -my opinion.
