That is the question!!!

Ok, so I will be putting a threaded barrel on my P226 Legion SAO for use of threaded devices. To accommodate said devices I am going to give an optic another try so will be acquiring an optic ready slide and using it.

I also have two Hi Powers. One is traditional blued/wood grips/blade sights, but the other is a Practical model with some modernized updates. That one is at a gunsmith right now getting some further upgrades, one of which is to crown the barrel. Should I skip crowning the barrel and have him fit a threaded barrel instead…or just stick with the P226 for activities that need threaded barrels? If I have him thread the barrel, I’d also look into taller sights while its there. I just put night sights on it before sending it off but if I do go the threaded route, now is the time to update that order.

I’m curious why you say that?

It just doesn’t seem worth the expense of buying an expensive extended barrel for the HP when the 226 is already threaded. Modern HP’s already have pretty tall sights and if they don’t already clear a can, putting taller ones on will look comical on such a sleek pistol.

One final concern is the weak link of the HP, which is the recoil spring plug. It’s mechanically locked to the slide stop where it’s thinnest and I have seen them break, rendering the gun inoperable. I wouldn’t want to add any stress or pressure to it if it were mine.

Thanks for the explanation!
