It is a line/scene in the movie the other guys.

Years ago, a guy I used to work with told me that he used to mess around with "cowboy quick draw", so I'm sure you know what's coming next.
As he was knowingly doing this with a loaded pistol, he ended up shooting himself in the leg, not just once .... but twice, before he finally came to the realization that what he was doing wasn't really a good idea.
What can someone say to this ??
Yikes! Slow learner?

While I was still living at home ('70-ish?), there was a news story about a young man practicing quick draw in front of a mirror with a loaded gun. He dropped it, it fired, and shot him fatally in the forehead.

Closer to home... shortly after graduation, a classmate came home from hunting and accidently killed his girlfriend with a loaded shotgun.

Firearms often don't get the respect they deserve.

About 25 years ago, an OKC gunsmith fatally shot himself with an unloaded pistol, a 1911, IIRC. He dropped the mag, racked the slide, stuck it in the vise, and went to work. They think he accidentally got his finger inside the trigger guard while it was pointing directly at his center of mass, and that was all she wrote.

And yes, he dropped the mag before racking the slide. The problem the gun was in for? A busted extractor. So racking the slide didn't do a damn thing except leave a live round in the chamber and grieving friends and family.

Before you pull the trigger on an "empty" chamber, make damn sure you visually inspect it. Stick your finger in the chamber if you have to. It just takes one mistake...

I put one through the wooden floor of my trailer once doing exactly the same... drop the mag, rack the slide, point down at the ground and pull the trigger. Only I apparently forgot step 2. One still in the chamber.

I learned a lesson that day for sure.

Always check multiple times before I hand a gun over to anyone, visually AND with a finger in the chamber.

I put one about 2 inches below my manhood in my left thigh. Exited the outside of my leg and went completely through my driver side door and shattered the rolled down window. I had sent the High Standard to a gunsmith because it would fire if bumped. Was sitting in my truck loading it and I dropped it in my lap. Was not a good day.

At least he was the only one injured.
I knew a guy in Ponca that did that exact thing. Was his first name Steve?

I did not know I had shot myself for probably 5 minutes. I was so pissed that I had just shot a hole through the door of my 2 month old truck I never realized it. Got out and looked at my door then got back in and started driving off. I got out to open the gate and saw blood on my seat and a powder burn ring on my pants and it was instant pain.

Amazing you didn't realize it instantly.
