You are right about cancer rates rising, but the survival rates have doubled in the last 40 years, due to those evil pharmaceutical companies. The primary reason for the increase in cases is that people are living longer, again partially due to advances in meds. The last ten years of my career, I was with a 150 year old international company where one division is part of "Big Pharma". I spent a great deal of time working with that division, in their US research facility, talking with the doctors, researchers, etc. Those folks' primary daily thought is finding cures to the various things that plague us. I have total confidence in their efforts. Another interesting aspect of that business, is the amount of time spent waiting for .gov paperwork/approval. Then once a med is approved, they have only a few years to recover the millions/billions spent in the development, testing, and paperwork before the drug go generic. Revenues are indeed high, however profits are not always anywhere near what the public believes.
Are cancer deaths dropping do to advances in the chemo meds or more early detection? I believe its more so the latter. They push early detection like regular checks at the OBGYN for women and everyone to get a colonoscopy by age XX, etc. Now they have full body scans that detect a tumor and those scans are priced so anyone should be able to have one. The advancment of Proton therapy and improvements in Radiation also are factors. Big Phama creates customers, not cures.

Not necessarily aimed in anyone's direction. Just a general suggestion.

Well, I do honestly try. But I think it's difficult for all and any of us to ignore previous experience and knowledge... We're all building on what we currently "know" as we continue to learn so it's arguably impossible to be completley objective.

For decades, vaccines have been something I've questioned. They have in fact, hurt a lot of people and the efficacy is questionable.

I've always believed there is no such thing as a free lunch... People want to believe vaccines eliminate disease but cost us nothing in return. That's not how the world works. You're replacing the disease with something else and the proponents for the vaccine who call them safe are the same ones who also profit from them.

Anytime you monetize something, you invite greed and that should always be a concern.

I've always wondered and I guess that's just part of my skepticism... But with cancer rates higher than they've ever been and continuing to grow, how do we know a person's cancer today, was not the product of vaccines decades prior? I especially believe, with the way this vaccine is designed, that long term adverse health effects are likely.

Is it possible that a vaccine can **** you up some 2 or 3 or 4 decades later? And for what? A less than 1% mortality rate for people 70 and under?

Some of you all are so confident and I just don't see how you can be. Your faith in the "medical establishment" is not something I'm even remotely capable of.
I'm pretty sure you're going to see health issues 2,3,4 decades down the road that you don't have now whether you get any vaccines or not. It's also possible that you'll have issues 2,3,4 decades down the road from the virus, even if you're one of the 99.9% that survive it.

It's not entirely about the death rate. There are two major problems with this pandemic, one is health related and the other is economic impact. As long as the infection rate is high, especially with a lot of hospitalizations, there are going to be efforts to reduce them, which means people are going to stay home, which means they are not going to spend money, which hurts the economy, and shut downs just exacerbate the economic problem. Even setting aside sickness and death rates, it IS an economic nightmare.

If you're reluctant, don't get it, I don't think anyone should be forced to. But if no one gets it, this just continues to go on longer, maybe indefinitely. I'm hoping enough people take it to get this under control.

I'm counting on 70% of you (or whatever the magic number is this week) to get the vaccine so we can reach that there herd immunity they talk about.

I don't get out around the herd much but if it has immunity then maybe I will be safe without taking the vaccine myself. [emoji16]

In 1955 Polio vaccine messed up 120,000 children. 40,000 got abortive Polio, 51 were paralized and 5 died.
Thats not too bad hu?

Not to bad.

"Polio is a viral disease that affects the nervous system, causing paralysis. It spreads through direct contact with people who have the infection.

Outbreaks occurred regularly in the United States through the 1950s, with two major polio outbreaks in 1916 and in 1952. Of the 57,628 reported cases in 1952, there were 3,145 deaths.

In 1955, Dr. Jonas Salk’s vaccine was approved. It was quickly adopted throughout the world. By 1962, the average number of cases dropped to 910. The CDCTrusted Source reports that the United States has been polio-free since 1979.

Now: Getting vaccinated is very important before traveling. There’s no cure for polio. Treatment involves increasing comfort levels and preventing complications."
