Nice little pistol there. But my... uh...friend...I mean this guy I met at range... said to be careful cleaning it, with the slide off, it is real easy to rotate the frame mounted safety lever up just a tad too far, and when you do, SPROING! You'll launch the little pin and the tiny, almost invisible spring into that dimension where such tiny parts go. He also told me that it is really easy to put the idiot mark on it.
I’ve done that with a Colt Government.380 before....

OK, Hotshots, here is one you won't see every day.

Been waiting 2 weeks to get this Alkanet root. (no you don't smoke it). Its an old world stain making plant that used to be used on high end shotguns and such. I am going to pulverize this in that mortar and let it steep in some oil a week or so and try and fake that old Winchester red stain. Most people would just go to Home Depot and grab some minwax most likely.

After reading all kinds of recipes I just decided to use the Kiss principle and Keep It Simple Stupid. Boiled Linseed, this root powder and a splash of turpentine and make a red oil to do the grain filler sanding coats on a stock. Might sprinkle a fleck of baby powder on it if it don't do a good fill but that' s all I'm going to use. I think the guy's over at Purdy are probably safe in their job security but Old SKool baby.

Yes I am kinda anxious too. Like a Star Trek boldly go where you never been before kinda way.

But, HOLY SMOKES this indian root stuff is powerful. Everyone was saying you leave this soaking for a few weeks and some English guy said 6 months. Photo after soaking in oil about an hour and it already looks like a warm Cabernet. I put a dab on my finger and painted a stripe on the inside of the stock and it is already kinda purplely/red and brings out the highlights beautifully. I'm gonna have to be careful with this stuff, it might be dangerous in an inexperienced hand.
