So you became another 2A auditor?
I don’t like that policy either but it’s their business and their rules. Why blatantly challenge them? The employee was just following work place rules their employer requires them to follow to keep their jobs that may be supporting a family.
I don’t get it?
Of course you get it. You're Dennis Hoddy. You know everything. You're totally right, and read that perfect. I should be ashamed of myself.

Let's say you are WalMart, you take inventory of all your stores every year. You discover millions in dollars of merchandise is missing. What do you do?

Have a buddy that use to work in the BA store, wasn't unusual for the inventory to come up a million short and that was just one store.

I remember years ago buying a Ruger 10/22 from Wal-Mart. That was the most difficult firearm transaction I have ever done. it was akin to buying a car. And yes the assistant manager had to walk it to the door.

My employer has some rules that people dislike, especially when it comes to cable wiring in apartments. My saying is "If the policy I have to follow sounds weird or unlikeable, its because we have been sued for it in the past". Case in point: we can not staple cable lines up and over doorways. So if the cable outlet is on one side of a door way and the tv is now on the otherside, we either have to run a brand new outlet or tell the customer they will have to purchase their own coax and run it themselves. The reason behind this policy is at some point a Cox tech stapled a cable line over a door way and it came loose. The customer, not paying attention, went to walk through the doorway and clotheslined themselves. Guess who got a small payday. Another case in point (and this happened to me) we do not remove cabling from houses. Once its attached, if you want it removed you have to do it. The reason being is that we would become liable for any paint that comes off and/or filling all the holes so water doesn't get in. I removed an amp from the side of the house once and it tore some of the paint off and left the siding exposed. The customer (wife) said not to worry about it, that they had the house painted 6 months ago and they had spare paint. Two days later I get a call from my sup who said we now had to paint the whole house because the paint had faded and the paint they had on hand didn't match anymore. He told me that next time we are to leave the old amp and put the new one beside it or on top of it if we can.

So I can understand how some policies at some stores seem ludicrous, but its usually the result of an equally ludicrous lawsuit.

I've said this before, companies don't come up with weird policies just to aggravate their customers. Lawsuits or examples of claims such as Tanis143 mentioned are good motivators, or sometimes regulations that are outside the companies control. Sometimes the reasons are not obvious, but if you were familiar with the history of how those decisions were made, they would almost always make more sense. There are always at least two sides to every story.

Pretty easy solution. Either don't buy from the stores that you feel are stupid, or let them carry the employee do their job as they have been instructed to do. Arguing, (or "putting them in their place" as some of the comments would indicate) serves no purpose other than to show the employee what a big horse's rear you really are.

Got a nice discount at Walmart a couple of years ago on a firearm. I had no problemo letting em walk my happy ass all the way to the pickup.
