Were there 80 million people in the US in total when he was on the air?
The US population when he first was on TV was 181 million plus and well over 220 million when he retired. Now I have no idea what his viewer numbers were, but yes well over 80 million in population.

I still think he had more watching that day than the other broadcasters. I have no clue as to how to look up viewership numbers though. JMO

We were among some of the population at that time that did not have a TV in the home. I was a senior in High School before my parents bought their first. Just couldn't afford one.
We had to go grandparents, uncle or the one neighbor that had a TV to watch it.
With probably 60% of the population being children in 1963, (just spit balling), aged and poor people not having TV, and so on, I'll stand by Tucker being having the biggest audience in his first broadcast.
83 million as of today, would have it with 50% of the population watching Cronkite which didn't happen I'm pretty sure.
Could be wrong, but betting I'm not.

Not exactly. Unlike other sites, Twitter counts a "hit" after just one (1!) second. So anyone slowly scrolling through the tweets - even if they did not actually pause to watch the tweet itself - would be counted in that (slightly deceptive?) 80+ million number.

Of course, if as little as only 1/8th of those 80+ million "hits" (just 1-in-12!) were legitimate [and it certainly is likely to be a bigger number than that], then his actual viewership would still exceed his (excellent) Fox audience numbers! In any way, that's impressive.

Now FOX news is suing Tucker for breach of contract because of that twatter post. He technically still works for FOX, until 2025 and is still getting paid by them.
