Can I shoot .338LU out of my SCAR-H .30 cal can?

I've got a .30 cal SCAR-H SD that's pending my form 4 approval. I've also now got a great opportunity to get a .338 Badger action and stock. I've never wanted to get into the .300wm or the .338LU before because of recoil, but if my can will work with it and reduce a lot of the recoil, I might be interested.

As far as I can find, there is a difference in the diameter of the .308win and .338LU, but is it enough that it won't allow me to use it? Should I have a special can for magnum carteridges due to the increase in pressure/gas coming out of the muzzle?

I would ask the manufacturer of your can. If they say it is OK, go for it.

.338LU? Lapua Magnum?

I'm pretty sure your SCAR-H is not warrantied for .300WM or .338LM.

0.339-0.308 is 0.031. The bore on the SCAR-H is probably EDMed big for .308 for stacking tolerances and thread jobs that may not be perfect. You are going to eat up all of the comfort room by running a .339 bullet. Plus, the pressure is going to be higher with a lot more gas volume at the muzzle. If it does hold up and you don't get baffle strikes, it won't be very effective just because of it's lower volume. If you want a .338 can you need an AAC Titan, but stay away, I'm getting mine first! :D

Good to know - I don't know why I typed .338LU instead of LM :drink:

I thought I read something about magnum-rated suppressors somewhere and I'm pretty sure mine isn't one.

I don't know that I'd want a .338 without a can or break of some sort.

LOL. I'm hopefully going to start the ball rolling on a SS TITAN from Maj Malfunction. Saving up for a .338LM Surgeon Remedy for it to go on as well.

Damn that's a lot of saving to do. I was looking at a Badger action over on the Hide and almost had a trade going with the guy, but I couldn't let go of what I had just to get something that would ultimately cost me another can for a rifle - though I assume the Titan will work backwards with some of the smaller .30 cal stuff, so had I been thinking this whole thing out, I could have gotten a Titan instead and just put it on my .308 when I wanted to.

Oh well.

Yeah the Titan will work for pretty much any round .338 and smaller, but it is quite a bit bigger than most .308 cans.

Another thing to consider is a considerable lead time on the Titan. AAC doesn't make them like they make other cans. I think Maj told me that there is usually 6 months or so between runs of the Titan. Just more waiting I guess...lol.
