Firmly believe you are shooting too light of loads. Try high brass through the Weatherby and no less than 1 oz. through the Rem. I bought a Weatherby semi auto for $50 because "it jams with everything". Was told by a friend that had one that it was designed for high brass. Never missed a lick after that.

After shooting many shotguns for many years I am of the opinion that 7/8 oz. loads are just too light to be reliable in a semi auto. Especially a 3" or 3 1/2" gun. I am also of the opinion that 90% of the semi auto failures is load related.

on the weatherby I was shooting 11/8 oz. And is high brass a type of shell or a brand? I have not heard of "high brass"

The 1 1/8 shells have around 1/4 inch brass and heavy loads have closer to 3/4 tall brass it is used to identify heavy loads from light loads. it means nothing to a reloader as you can load heavy loads in short brass shells.

If the Weatherby works like the 1187, clean the O-ring and the metal rings well. Most failures to function on Remingtons are the result of too much oil in the gas system which rapidly piles up residue resulting in failure to function.

I went on a quail hunt once where a hunter I had not met was invited by the landowner. His 1100 would not function properly. It had been oiled heavily, not cleaned, and allowed to set for a long time. Very carefully applied gasoline (safety instructor, right?:smash:) cleaned out the crud. Even the holes in the barrel were full of powder residue. I spent the rest of the hunt staying away from him because once he started shooting, he focused only on the bird/s and not on anyone or anything else, sort of like he was related to Dick Cheney. Proving one more time that no good deed ever goes unpunished.

I have no personal experience with Weatherby shotguns, but 1 1/8 ounce shells should work just fine. CB

If you bought the Weatherby used, You may need to break the gun down and use a paper clip to clean the gas chamber hole(s) on the barrel. I'm not sure of the make up of the weatherby, I shot a 1100 and 1187 remingtons. If the gas ports get guncked up it will not cycle properly and cause the extractor not to get enough gas. Some people shoot them till they get guncked up and don't know who to fix them.... So then they sell the gun. If you bought it used take it apart till you just have the barrel in your hand inspect the gas port and clean it out... Good Luck.. be careful not to use solvent on the o-rings, it can cause them to break down and rip apart:wave:
