What will you do if you ever come up against an animal who refuses to run from you on command? What if it jumps on you and starts to rip you apart? Will you beg for someone to find a way to stop the attack to save your life?

If it came to that, then yes...lethal force would be necessary. Survival of the fittist. In the animal world, there are prey and preditors. If you are scared, that makes you the prey to an aggressive dog. Dogs can sense human fear and emotions also. Dogs live in the now, not the past as humans do. They are instinctual.

However, my point is not to judge every dog by our past experiences. Remain calm in the situation and try not to escalate the incident.

I will refrain from weighing in anymore...

OC spray 10% is far more effective and idiot proof than some peoples "expert" opinions on animal behavior.

A) you won't risk going to jail.
B) I don't have to worry about being the guy who catches a bullet in public when you go to shoot the dog.

A gun is not the cure all. Nor is it a license to be super badass.

OC spray doesnt work for crap on a lot of dogs.

How about we start using "dog" and "human" interchangeably in these arguments? Double-standards irk me.

Also, are you* seriously suggesting that I ponder a dog/human's upbringing while deciding on whether or not to use lethal force to defend myself?

I could care less if the dog/human had a crappy puppyhood/childhood, good or bad owner/parent, etc. All that matters is that you're currently squared off with something/someone that looks like it wants to put a hurtin' on you.

*"You" not being anyone in particular, just proponents of the "use OC instead" route. OC, just like loud pipes, are just another tool in the toolbox of safer... jogging or whatever.

Just to clarify, the dog bites I have had were before I carried a gun. In the neighborhood was a small white maltise thing that thought it owned my yard and their yard too...Hated that thing! It would constantly nip at my son when he mowed the yard. While I blamed the dog for the bite, the owner was responsible for letting it run loose.

So, you've never been backed into a corner by a dangerous dog that is capable of maiming or killing someone?

I would punt a maltese dog into the next county if it tried to bite me.

I doubt the OP is considering shooting a maltese.

This is more likely.
