Ok, So I'd be curious to hear from a Game Warden on just how many poachers have been caught with a legaly purchased supressor.

My guess is that most poachers are not going to fork over the money for the supressor and tax stamp. They have their own methods already that cost much less and don't require the paperwork.

Even then, what's going to stop poachers from using one now. They are already breaking the law right??? There is nothing illegal about owning one or just walking around your land plinking with one. Or having one on a rifle properly stored in a truck.

Down Sides:
Harder for game rangers to locate offenders/poachers
Harder for land owners to know if someone is tresspassing on their land

Advantages:
Quieter for followup shots on additional targets.

I may be narrow minded on this one, but I think it should stay illegal to use them because I feel the number of poachers would increase.

Poachers use whatever they want currently to accomplish their task. Why not allow licensed hunters to use them? Suppressors don't make a gun shot undetectable. They still have a report just not as much.

If I am hunting on my land I want to know who is out there. Even if they use a suppressor on a centerfire rifle I should still be able to hear them. It also allows me to keep what hearing I have left.

The current poaching laws should be looked at. If a suppressor is used was it legally purchased or made? Increase the penalties for poaching would be one way of trying to stop it. I doubt it will ever go away.

I don't hunt but we thought it would be something Oklahoma could benefit from and that is why we brought this issue to our State representatives.

I can understand not allowing it for deer hunting but for varmints and pest control. Texas currently allows suppressor for non game animals.

Thanks for all of the ideas and opinions.

I voted yes. Poachers are using them I am sure, whether or not its legal will not matter. Would I hunt with one? I am not sure, possibly but how about just taking an accurate shot the first go around........? By the way, I do see how it would be nice if there were several nice species of game around that you could be taken LEGALLY.

Yes, I hate loud noises. In one of the nordic countries, I think Finland. You have to use a suppressor to hunt.

You know everyone keeps saying that Poachers use them. Can anyone substantiate this? I am trying to remember, but I don't know of one published incident of poaching with a suppressor, certainly not in Oklahoma that I know of?

I think it's kinda like criminals use machine guns in crimes. There is only one documented case of a NFA registered MG being used in a crime that I'm aware of, since 1933.

Good question. Why would poachers even think that they needed supressors? I can't call the law every time I hear a gun shot.
All of my neighbors shoot. I just assume it's one of them.
