Cool pics Scott. Thanks for sharing. I am itching to get the .17 Rem out and do some calling. Been holding off till the cats are legal. Saw one from the tree stand already this year.

I am counting the days myself. So how do you like the 17 ? I used one a few years ago and wish I would have kept it.

MyMonkey, they were taken in Texas and Oklahoma. Glad you liked them.

Nice pics, Scott. I'm ready for Dec. 1 myself since I got to watch two rummaging in a brush pile while MZ hunting a few weeks ago. First time I've ever seen more than one at a time.

Nice pics. Have you encountered any Lynx cats while hunting the bobcats? One year we shot 3 in one day, it seemed to be one of those days that every time we turned on the call something showed up.

Then again we get to hunt them at our ranch in W. Texas year round.

This is my one and only bobcat I've called in. It was snowing like crazy with 0 wind. I only let out a couple of rabbit squeals, and this one showed up looking around. I popped it with the .17hmr, and it just fell over and died. Great little round.

I really like the .17 Rem. I had to work to find a load that it liked that killed well. I killed a bunch with Rem factory 25 gr loads but they all were runners. Many went 50 yrds or more before expiring. I rebarreled it with a shilen barrel and wanted to shoot 30 gr kindler gold bullets but they tumbled out of it. Not fast enough twist to stabilize them. I got in contact with a guy that goes by ackleyman on predatormasters and he really had great info on the gun and loads. He had owned several with the same barrel as mine and told me which bullet to use and a range of powder that he said I would find the sweet spot in and he was right on. I use 25 gr berger match hps. He said stay away from the varmint hps by berger because they blow up on impact and do not penetrate. It is a fur killing machine and I have not had an exit yet. Had a couple run a few yards but most drt. I have not shot a cat with it yet but figure it will do well on them too. Longest kill so far was a lasered 386 yrds last new years day. It has been my go to rifle the last since I got it a couple years ago. It is just fun to shoot.

I really wish I would have kept mine now.It was a great little rifle. Maybe one day I will get me another one. 368 yards is a long poke for any gun, especially that one. Thanks for the info.
Hey Dennis i had always thought that 17 hmr would be great on a bobcat. That is a really great looking cat! Someone did a good job on the mount.

lameduck I have never seen a lynx in the wild.I don't know if we even have any here in Oklahoma. I hunted in west Texas last month.Where is your ranch at out there?

I have a .17hmr and mainly use it to pop rabbits. I have shot 5-6 yotes with it just because that is what I had in my hand at the moment, and it preformed well with the factory Federal rounds.

I have even shot a few feral hogs with it, but the shot placement was between the eyes, with no exit hole.

It is a great round for small game, or to practice long range shooting because of the minimal recoil. The downside is that even a small wind gust will blow the round off target, which can be a pain in windy conditions.
