Hi All,

Recently i purchased a used SDB from an OAS member. The good thing is, it was all setup and ready to load. The bad thing about that is I didn't learn how to assemble the thing and really don't know how it goes together.

Soon after I started using it a couple of problems developed. 1. There is a "hitch" in the action on the way down after loading the powder. As you pull down it grabs and you have to back off and keep pushing down. At the best, this is an annoyance and slows you down a bit.. worse than that, it sometimes grabs hard enough to shake some powder out of the shell going to the next station. About one in every 25 pulls, the action will get stuck at the top and requires several gentle pulls to free it. I THINK it has something to do with the primer feed, but I really have no clue.

Problem number two seems to be temporary as it isn't doing it anymore, but for about 12-15 rounds, the press put a crescent-shaped dent in the bottom of the primer. I have attached a picture below... you can see on the left of the bottom row the primers are pretty mangled... but the rest of them just have a moon-shaped dent in them. These are Federal Premium Match primers btw.

Now, right before this started, a thin black washer appeared to fall out of the press from the die area up underneath. The washer is very thin and is bent - sort of rounded.. it is also in the picture below. I have NO idea where this goes, but the press seems to be working fine without it and the primer problem was temporary. The hitch in the action is NOT temporary... I sure would like to fix that.

Any ideas?

Thanks as always.

B

It sounds like the press is not in "battery". The crescent shape you are seeing on the primers is from the ram not being centered on the primer when you seat them. Call Dillon in the morning and they will help you diagnose it as well as send you the parts you need for FREE!

#1. It sounds like the case is hanging on the case mouth expander. Try readjusting your case mouth expander where it doesn't go so far inside the case and "bell" the case mouth so much.

#2. Check the top of the primer punch for debris or deformation. I had one that used to put an "L" shape on my primers. I used a small file and smoothed it off and it didn't do it anymore.

ain't not test to their warranty. I bought one used and they have a no question just tell them what it is doing and they will get you the parts and even walk you through getting it right. The sdb is modular and easy to fix.

The half moon was caused by a primer that had the side shaved off when seating and then the shaved off piece stayed on the primer seat for a while...thus the half moon. The rest sounds like the expander ball in the powder die. Hope that helps. KurtM

Near Hanna,
Blutch, as far as the washer, it looks to be from a powder measure. It should fit behind an allen type screw at the fulcrum of the lever that actuates the powder bar....Maybe... later rdd
