The HG looks weird. Do china have to register to manufacture M16? US was the first one invented M16 if I remember correctly. I would be a stolen idea and violated copy right.

Taiwan is the "Republic of China"....that island that sits off the coast of mainland China and sees itself as a completely different company. It is a US ally, that uses all types of US-sold and licensed weapons, aircraft, vehicles, etc.

Also, didn't the patent expire on the M16 lower just this last year or so (or something similar to that)?

From what I understand, Colt has patents on the M4 systems, but not the general rifle, thus why everyone and their mother makes one now.
As for the Taiwan(ROC), I imagine they may have rights to build them. I think when norinco(PRC) was gearing up to make them, they wernt licenced for sure, they were gonna build them for simular reasons for building the M-14's, to give them to insurgants that would be getting ammo and mags from the US backed forces they were fighting.

Taiwan has Aegis destroyers, F16s, and lots of other US weapons systems. Wouldn't think anyone would be overly concerned about them making an m16 knock off.
Getting that 203 to fire would suck with gloves on.
