Totally unregulated ranges make me uneasy because too many people there are unsafe, lacking in muzzle discipline or whatever. I like private clubs where the rules are lax enough to let people do what they want (rapid fire, draw-fire, blowing up pumpkins) but there's a nominal annual fee to keep the jackasses out.

So basically I'm recommending the OKC equivalent of Red Castle if there is one.

Down here in the SE corner of the state, if it wasn't for the totally unregulated Forestry Service ranges I wouldn't have a single place to shoot. I've never really had an uneasy experience at one, i'm sure there are some bad apples that shoot there but i've never really met one of em'. Hell, there is some old guy that is there pretty much every single day, he almost acts as a rangemaster.

I'm sure I could find somewhere else to shoot, but it probably wouldn't be 100% legal.

The last time I went "out to the country" to go shooting I ended up with a misdemeanor reckless handling of a firearm charge (according to the Cleavland Co DA 3 houses all on 20+ acre lots = a residential area) That "cheap" range trip cost me $250 in fines/court costs, 3 day off work to settle it, an evening in the pokey, and $150 to a bondsman. I'll stick to the range, even gunworld is cheaper than that trainwreck.

I'm finding it tough to feel sorry for you...unless you owned the land you were shooting on. :drunk5:

The land was owned by a friend who was with us at the time. I wasn't looking for your sympathy, simply pointing out that while going to the range can get expensive, not going to a range can be much more so.

WOW !!! unreal, I wonder what creek co. ordinances are.. I shoot on 10 acres there and you can see house up the hill from where I shoot, so far no problems..

The town of Pawnee has a public range and it is just inside your two hour drive window. When I was there last they were plinking some pop cans.

Call the city hall for hours and access.
