I supposed I could just call a shop and ask, but I figured I'd hit up OSA's collective experience.

Anyone know if you can get a VTR's existing slotted brake chopped off and the barrel threaded for a different brake? I don't know if the triangular barrel would pose a problem for the shop or not.

I'm actually looking at the SPSs but came across a good deal on a VTR.

From what I've heard, you cannot do any of the normal stuff but then again, I've never tried it on the VTR - I know no matter what you do, it will either cost a lot or be very difficult to find a triangular break and then get it to index correctly.

If you honestly want to customize your rifle, I'd get the cheapest skinny barrel you can find (unless you have access to just an action - then I'd get that) and go have Steve Baldwin put a Hart varmint contour barrel on it and true the action - he gets them for a great price and you'll have about 3 times the rifle of that VTR when you're done (plus with it being a way higher quality barrel, you can chop it down to 18-20" and still have way more accuracy and less weight than that 24 or 26" VTR).

Thanks ez, that actually sounds like sound advice.

@kdlong, it wasn't really a matter of brake performance so much as wanting a QD brake. Although I've heard that the VTR rifles with that brake are loud loud loud.
