alright cool, it really just comes down to if its sporterized or not that lowers it s collectability, some people dont like the turkish conversions. The turks never threw anything away and in 1938 they changed the Gew 88 to take the mauser stripper clips instead of the mannlicher clip system. I'll try and find some pics of the differences between the 88/05 and the 88/05/38

the first pic is of a supposedly original 1888 without the 05 modification

next is one with the 05 conversion to take the .323 dia 8mm round, that is noted by the S on the reciever

the regimental markings indicate the 1st guards grenadier regiment 11th company rifle #23. You might ask where i found that info http://www.cruffler.com/trivia-December99.html

As to value i'd say about $200 or so maybe $250 tops. That is almost a niche gun as alot of people either dont know anything about them or arent interested in them. You'd almost have to sell it on a C&R collector board. If you take it to a gunshow you are going to get offered $100 for it again and again, i had an 1891 danzig Gew 88/05/38 that i couldnt sell at a gunshow, i posted it on a collector forum and it sold within a few hours and since its an antique there is no FFL needed
