Good luck to everyone, I have to work this weekend but will be off the rest of the week to takile my 7 year old son out. Hopefully, I can get him on a good one and I have one in mind just for him. He took his first deer, a spike, ast year during youth season. I talked him into setting his sights...
Well I got it done today. We have bigger antlered deer on our property but he is by far the most mature buck on there.
Seen him locked down with a doe. After watching them for just over an hour, I watched him breed her. Then a shot finally presented itself and at 244 yds, the Ruger #1 in 280...
Thanks. It just takes time, determination and practice with the younger ones. But he caught on quick, it took no time for him to try out the AR after getting comfortable with the .22's. I was worried he would be scared after the first shot from it, but he wasn't and put 20 round through it the...
My 6 y/o son wanted to deer hunt this, so we have been practicing quite a bit with the .22's and the AR, since it's the only rifle that will adjust to him. He has been proficient enough that momma and I gave him the green light to go out.
Since I work youth weekend, my wife took him out this...

Would've been nice to see a rendition of the '03, but it's not a bad looking rifle. Need to see some reviews on it.
I might break out the buck decoy tomorrow, seeing how the bucks are cruising or locked down today. Works pretty good in my neck of the mesquite prairies.
I have a dandy 8 right on the fence line locked on a doe since this morning and still locked on her as of 2:30. Seems like a lot of the bigger bucks are on lockdown right now.
Could implement an earn-a-buck program like Wisconsin. But with our online check station, who's to say that a hunter "checked" in a doe just so that they can get their buck tag?
I wouldn't be against antler restrictions.
If it's herd management, yes more people need to harvest more doe's and how about opening every day of the firearms season instead of certain "zones" are only open to doe harvest on the weekends.
Also, wouldn't mind an extended primitive arms season...

Instead of extending gun season, how about a bigger bag limit or allowing straight wall cartridge's during primitive arms season? Or a longer primitive arms season?
As rifle season is right around the corner, which rifle will you be out in the woods or prairies with?
I chose my Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor this year and as always my wife will hunt with her Remington Model Seven in 6mm Remington.
Good luck and be safe.

Since the "2019 Deer Hunting" thread got hijacked more into a rut report, instead of success and misfortunes.
So down in SE Ok, I have been seeing quite a bit of chasing and a lot of good bucks with broken antlers. I think we are starting to be around the peak down here. Bucks should still be...
