There's some areas in Montana that hold freakish big mule deer but it's $550 now for a non-resident tag up there and their herds have been suffering the last couple of years. Still some monsters, just going to be some tough, frustrating hunting.
It's funny because the last night I was there we had a long conversation at the dinner table about shooting sticks. The guides shared many stories of the similar experiences with hunters. Guess they didn't sink in. Too bad really, he was a nice guy and I truly wanted everyone to tag out, but...
Update, appears I was the only one of four hunters to tag out. One ol' boy from Virginia missed a real nice bull from about 350 yds right before I left and never had another shot opportunity. The other two guys, a father-son combo from Kansas, got up to 60 yds on a couple bulls the last day...
I see that Deer Slayer let the cat out of the bag so to speak:wink2: I ended up being the alternate winner for the OYHSP Elk Hunt raffle. It was a great experience, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The hunt is actually for another day but I had a family emergency so I had to get back home...
The season out here runs pretty late, there's actually still another 12 days left of it. I finally tagged out last weekend after missing one with my bow early in the season and having several birds bust me. Saw a ton of birds this year and got this guy out in my yard about 40 yds from my back...
Been busy and haven't been keeping track of this thread, or any thread for that matter. If any of y'all know anyone in Colorado that needs tickets I have a few left so send them my way and I'll get them hooked up.
If you guys get a chance, help out a brother stranded in colorado and vote in this one for me too. I really miss you guys right now, feels like I'm out on an island here.

I had a heck of a time getting through my order from Brownells last night too, finally got it taken care of but I imagine everyone's website will be a little slow for the short term
I called and cancelled my "rewards" card with them, I told them I was having a knee jerk reaction to their knee jerk reaction. Had to wait on hold for 30 minutes to do it but it was very satisfying to deliver the news. I've never purchased a firearm from them anyway but I did go there to shop...
I was driving home from doing a little scouting on Saturday, flipped to a game on the radio and realized, I DIDN'T MAKE A PICK THIS WEEK!!!!! Oh well, I shall repair my shattered dreams and move on. I shall humbly pass on the mantle.
Way to go guys! I've been waiting to hear how it went, I was going to call Deer Slayer this morning and get my update but didn't get a chance. Congrats to the kids and the guides.
Deer Slayer, I'll try and give you a call later this evening.
Portable is nice but if you're hunting private, I'd buy a couple of Viper Classic's, pick your best spots and leave them. That's what I used to do on our lease in Coal County. I actually had two that I'd hang in my standby spots at the beginning of the season and leave them in those spots the...
He's referencing a thread from a couple years ago, OSA hunting section gold, I bumped it but here's a linky too: http://www.okshooters.com/showthread.php?102147-Tip-of-the-day-Take-non-horrific-hunting-pictures&highlight=hunting+pictures
Nice:clap3:
I noticed that the other day when you changed it, good catch. You do know you're going to have The German(aka Mr. Karma) gunning for you for changing your pick late in the week. You will be hexed.:yikes2:
On another note, you all need to start dropping like flies around here. I...
7!
I strongly encourage you to buy yourself a grinder and make your own smoked sausage, we did about 20 lbs of smoked last year, it was great and you can probably do it better than I can. I took out 5 lbs to "experiment" on, we minced up jalapenos and the such, it turned out awesome. This year...
