Well,..I used 49.5gr of IMR 4320 as planned. No problems and no signs of high pressure. Avg velocity of 150gr. .311 TSX in the 7.62x54R was 2800 fps.

That puts me right at .308 Win performance levels with my Mosin-Nagant

Get off my lawn.
Glad you got the load you liked. If you have one that works, you don't really need reloading data. Just slowly work up from there and look for the signs. Reloading data is usually really conservative anyway. Just work up and be careful. Don't go up by whole grains and jam the bullet .010 into the lands and you'll be ok.

interesting... Hodgdon a respected name lists it at .308

50 GR. NOS BT Hodgdon H4895 .308" 2.875" 46.0 2769 38,000 CUP 49.5C 2938 46,300 CUP

Did you know that the 7.62x54 Russian is actually .308? Here is what I have from Hornady: IMR 4320 - Min 38.0gr @2300fps - Max 45.4gr @2700fps.

For more info click HERE.

I hope that this info helps you out.

Sam

ETA: Save those bullets for a 303 Enfield.

I'm doing a bit of reloading and I'm having a hard time finding info using the components I want to use.

I'm loading for the 7.62x54R using:

new PVRI cases
WLR primers
IMR 4320 powder
Barnes TSX 150gr. .311 bullets
with a COL of 2.990"

I tried this combo with 48.0 gr. of powder and didn't quite get the velocity I was looking for, but accuracy was good. I've tried to piece together some information from the web like handloads.com, Steve's pages and such.

I'd like to try something like 49.5 gr. of IMR 4320 and see what I get but I cannot find any published data. I did find a person who's favorite load using a 150gr. bullet was 49.0 gr. of 4320. Steve's pages says I can max out at 51.0 gr., but that's for a .310 dia. bullet.

Anybody have any thoughts..?

Go to OKC gun club website/benchrest/military bolt action

There is information there for loading this particular round.

Yeh. What do you want? Velocity or accuracy. The two don't necessarily go together. If you get another 100-200 fps but its not accurate what have you accomplished? That deer don't give a crap how fast the bullet was that missed him. JMO

I've tried 4320, 3031, BLC2 and 4064 for hunting loads in my Mosins - I'm using grafs 150gn SST .311 and 4064 seems to work the best as far as pressure signs on hot loads (as well as accuracy).

Most russians will be in .312-.315
Finns are .308-.311
PSLs and AKs - .310-.312

Most reloading manuals have it WRONG! Obviously you can shoot .308 out of either one with no chance of overbore, but most likely not optimal for your rifle.

With that said, I've been shooting .3105 V-max 123gn bullet out of my VERY worn 91/30 that slugs .314: I was able to shoot best score 100-3x with 297 aggregate last year at the state.
And "go-to" load for M39s calls for Sierra .3115 bullet.
