Lyman 4500

Any of you guys ever run into this?
I was out resizing some 357 SWC GC bullets this weekend.
Pull the handle and snap. What the heck?
The handle broke off right at the pivot point.

I've emailed Lyman but they haven't got back with me.
I just bought this sucker about 4 months ago.

Sorry to see that OF. Looks like Lyman isn't what they once were. I just bought a powder measure stand and was really disappointed. I mean it works and all, but the quality looks just like something out of a Chinese sweat shop. :grumble:

They did make good on the warranty of my 2500 tumbler (motor died) so you'll eventually get squared away, I think.

I figure it will take a few days to hear anything.
Telephone response time is always quicker.
I just didn't have the time right now.
I'm pretty sure they get back with me and make it right.

Well they got back with me late yesterday afternoon.
Asked if I had took it apart yet?
I replied and still haven't heard back.
I'm beginning to think Lyman customer service is on vacation......

I have an old Lyman 450. Do you think the parts will enterchange with your sizer? If it will I'll let you have it cheap.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm gonna wait this knuckleheads out.
I've only ran about 500 bullets thru it.

As an update they still haven't responded to my last post.

Is it a cast part? Kinda a bumm deal. I always assumed Lyman was a good outfit. you think they would want to be seeing how Dillon and RCBS are so good.

If for some odd reason they do not make good on it I would like to try to make a replacement part for it.

They got back with me late Friday and said they'd send a replacement. We'll see.
Thanks for the offer. I was already planning on making a drawing for future needs.
I've got a machine shop here where I can get them made if needed.

Well it showed up yesterday. I'll make a quick sketch of it today, then get it back on tomorrow maybe.
I'll probably make a couple improvement to the design so as to maybe not have to go thru this again.

I think I have an old one somewhere buried away too...

I bought a new tumber the other day after doing some research. It seems that Lyman is maybe doing a little less quality. The 2500 Magnum tumbler is evidently larger than all the older ones but cheaper and thinner and evidently the motor isn't holding up as well either.

Sad to see... I guess if you want quality nowdays, you have to really do your research and pay through the nose. Either that or plan on failure by buying cheap chinese stuff and just replacing it every year. I'll opt for quality whenever possible and necessary.
