"Fort Myers Police says the girl would have faced misdemeanor battery charges, but that the boy's mother has refused to press charges. She wants the girls' parents to hand out a punishment instead. "

Well there's one of the problems right there.

In my mind, it should be considered rape, but what do I know, or not.

100% agree, because what if that were 3 boys doing that to a little girl then what happens ? Just stupid nothing will ever happen to those girls I feel sorry for that little boy and his mother is an idiot I would have all 3 girls prosecuted to the fullest!!!! Maybe I'm over reacting because I'm a new parent I don't know now I'm ranting I'll stop now it just makes me sick!!

Also find it very interesting that they never mentioned the ages of the alleged attackers... were they also 11 years old, or were these older girls? Either way, they need serious punishment, and the parents need some consequences as well.

the girls are 8th graders, the boy a 5th grader...

So there's 3 counts of sexual assault, 3 counts of child pornography, and 3 girls who need to be taught the harsh lessons of life. If there were 3 boys who did that to a girl, the boys would be in juvenile detention until they could go to prison. Stupid double-standards and then the "mother" doesn't press charges. What a world we live in.

I think charges should be pressed but i dont think they should get CP charges like Buddhaman said. No sense in making them registered sex offenders but I do think they should get some severe punishment and have some kind of restitution for the boy.

The mother is a nitwit for not doing anything and the police should slap her in the face with a large hard object and then take it upon themselves to press charges.

Well yeah, can't the DA override the mothers wishes and pursue the case without the 'moms' consent? More than likely, the boy will be screwed up having to live with the sexual assult, classmates razing him, etc. Lots of therapy the keep from hating females etc.

for Gods sake, they are 11 years old and you folks want to sentence them to life in prison(sex offender).
It was a juvenile prank, and yes I understand the double standard, but not every thing at that age should require lifetime punishment for the parents, prison for the 11 year olds, etc.
Kids are people. They have a personality that sometimes cannot be changed, no matter how much a good parent tries.
How many times in your youth did you play DR and nurse????
Oh, yeah, I'm sure you all were the golden children that had 4.0 grade averages in school, and were the student council presidents.
For the record I raised two boys. Had they done something like that, the punishment at home would have been twice what the courts would dish out. They did crap, and they got punished for it. I did things in my days and I got the crap beat out of me by my dad. It didn't ruin me for the rest of my life to be punished by my parents. An ass whipping, grounding, didn't make me a wasted human being in society today.

By the way, What the hell did the kid do the girls to make them want to be so vindictive? Do we REALLY know the whole story?

Nah, it doesn't matter, send em to hell:smack:

Who advocated anything about prison? Or sex offenders list for life? I think I've read every response in this thread, but don't recall any of those punishments being advocated.

There are appropriate punishments for 11 year-olds. Some are harsher than others. I think a creative judge could come up with a way to make it stick in their heads that this was the wrong thing to do. But demonizing board members who advocate SOME kind of punishment with hyperbole sure doesn't do anything to help the situation, does it dennis? I wonder how you'd feel if this were your 11 year-old DAUGHTER who were attacked and stripped and videotaped in public and humiliated by having her naked body posted on the internet? Yeah... I'm sure you'd just chalk it all up to, "Kids being kids!"

Whatever...

<edit> And if the girls who did this actually ARE in 8th grade, they are likely more like 13-14, and damn sure old enough to know that this type of behavior is absolutely forbidden. Maybe you don't, though...
