If I remember correctly there is a group here in Oklahoma that gets to together and looks for gold. Might try a web search.

I use to pan in Colorado. There should be maps on mining in Oklahoma. These will
show if there is any and where it has been found.

Take a metal detector, especially one that is water proof...you'll want to search creek
and river edges.

In Colorado, the old timers told me ...1st. Pan in a bend of the river.
2nd. Look for black to dark sand...don't know why.
3rd.Unless there is an enormous amoumt, get ready to spend a lot of time for very
little to nothing.

When I first tried tbis in Colorado, I thought I was a billionaire!!! Those pretty
yellow nuggets, blinded my scientific judgement. At the end of the day I had
half a Wal-Mart sack full of nuggets and was thinking where to build my
mansion in Telluride. Sitting on the river bank I started to take a closer look
and this is where my "science"judgememt took over. I knew,by closer
examination this wasn't real gold...but Iron Pyrite...fool's gold.

Arrow heads.....as a kid I took a 5 gallon bucket to a cousins house in S.E. Missouri
and could fill it up. Especially after the field was plowed.

In Colorado, I could find pottery shards and a few other items...but my cousins
would throw a fit every time I found stuff. They made me swear not to tell
anyone where I found that stuff. They didn't want their farms confiscated and
turned into a national park.

Good luck and have fun.

Gold Prospecting

The GPAA Gold Prospectors Assn Of America Chapter 21 and others have located flakes and nuggets of pure gold in our river right at the campground. The results were better than some other places they have been. Bring your gold pan and give it a try. These guys have meetings at our camp several times a year. They love to show greenhorns how to find gold so come and try it. Watch the Event Calendar for schedule. We have gold panning kits for sale. Have a look at these pictures made right at the camp. Gold Prospecting. Keep all the gold you find.

I also read some reports about Tillman and adjacent counties, but haven't confirmed anyone actually has found gold there.

I am wondering is there any restriction and rules about metal detecting and gold prospecting. Any suggestion on how to get permission for it?

Chloecray:

Where I prospected for gold the owners owned the land next to the river...and I had permission. No sloose boxes or any major excavation. Just panning.

Waaay up in the mountains where no one could find me, I still panned.

I must not have been in the best areas...Durango/Telluride I could only find an ounce in an all day, backbreaking, panning day.

Goodluck.

It looks fun, but if you're in an area where it's speculative....it's tedious and back breaking....panning that is. I guess if I ever started finding decent amounts...the "back breaking" would turn into "fun and excitement"!!!

K River Camp grounds is a good place if your starting out. I have family friends who prospect along the Kiamichi and little rivers. They usually find trace stuff
and very small amounts.

metal detecting is legal if you have permission on private property, its a no go on public land usually, unless your given permission.
Big no no on federal land.

Hi to all interested in learning to find gold. The Oklahoma Prospectors Chapter 21 in Oklahoma City is having a Gold and Treasure Expo at the Fair grounds in OKC October 11th & 12th 2014. Go to the GPAA website and preregister. By doing so, you will be admitted 30 minutes prior to everyone else and you can win a trip to Alaska. Only $5 to get in. So come on out and learn to find gold, even in Oklahoma.
