I have a surplus .30 carbine and have just bought a Ruger Blackhawk in the same caliber, Does anyone shoot lead bullets and if so which one and what load? I do know that you shouldn't shoot lead bullets in a gas operated rifle but I also know that some people do. I don't mind cleaning the gas port more often but I do hate trying to get a bunch of lead out of the barrel. Are the Ruger Blackhawks bad about leading in this caliber? Any comments would be appreciated.

If your lead bullet alloy hardness is appropriately matched to the velocity/pressure of the cartridge then leading shouldn't be a major issue. There are some specific things to look for on a revolvers that can cause leading that aren't related to bullet alloy hardness.
