I have searched but have found conflicting information so any input would be appreciated. Is it legal, in the State of Missouri, for a felon to hunt with. possess or own a muzzleloader? Thanks a bunch!

Number 1, it is foolish to bet your freedom on legal advice from an internet forum, and, number 2, why are you asking an Oklahoma based shooters board for advice relating to the laws of Missouri??

Here is the best advice you will get, if the person has a felony conviction, STAY AWAY from weapons of any type, then he/she doesn't have to worry about whether they will be prosecuted for possession!!

If you insist on going down this path, you might also want to find out if it is legal for a convicted felon to possess the powder necessary to use the muzzle loader. The powder itself may be a prohibited item for a felon to possess.

Look up MO law and see how the state defines a firearm. Probably will find that muzzle loaders will count as firearms thus a felon would be precluded from owning one. Regardless of whether or not the state defines a muzzle loader as a firearm one still has the feds to contend with and though no NICS check is required to buy one I'd bet a dollar to a doughnut that the feds would also consider a muzzle loader a firearm which means if you're a felon and get caught with one its 10 years in the slammer with no chance of parole.
