Can they get in to trouble doing this?
I'm no Canadian law expert :P but since the law has been repealed/stricken, they aren't tracking any more, and they have ordered the data to be destroyed. Except Quebec, which is Canada's version of California, still wants to keep the data. So they're trading guns around and saying, "Fine, keep the data, but it's worthlessly out of date now because I don't have that gun anymore!"

Because Canadians who commit crimes involving guns against women only do it with registered long guns and never swap guns illegally. Riiiiight. I always get a kick out of reading the lame excuses people come up with for various gun laws.
