Does anyone load for the 30/30 using 3031 powder, with 150 gr. bullets? If so how much powder? I wiil be using fed. cases, rem. bullets and cci L.R. primers. I have consulted several sources, and the loads are all over the map. Early dupont loads listed 35.5 gr. (compressed load) at 2370 fps, max load. sierra, same time frame, 28.4 at 2200 fps. I could, I know, start at 27 or 28 gr. and work up, but I am hoping to get a better handle on this before I start. I was reading on one forum and they were talking about 3031 ringing barrels with light loads. Any help would be much appreciated. Rifle, by the way is a post 64, 94 win.

I have loaded for more than a dozen N.E.F. rifles in 30-30 Winchester and with 110 gr. bullets, I load using Reloader #7 and for bullets from 125 gr. to 180 gr. I use H-4895 and Winchester 748. It's quite easy to get these little single shot 30-30's to group well under an inch at 100 yds. with just a little fine tuning and proper load development....

Gaseous,

Rifle are like women, they all like something a little different. That's why you start at 27 grains and work up. I had a 25-06 load that worked fine in one rifle, but would stick the bolt in another. They all like something different. The old books would list a true MAX load to work up to. Newer books (with more lawyers in the mix) are more conservative today. Reloading is not for the lazy, start low, work it up and go to the range.

GM,

I've actually have a load recipe for this combo, but it's buried alive in a huge mess. We moved about a year ago and due to having to work too much and spending almost every free minute working on the old house I haven't had time to unpile the mess. If I every get an opportunity to dig thru it all I'll try and pm some info. It's actually a very accurate round combo in my Handi.
