Fished the neighbors pond this evening. Still has about 6' of water in it. I keep it stocked with bass. 20 years ago when I got permission, there was nothing but 3" fish in it. All stunted.
First thing stocked was a 6lb blue cat and a half dozen bass from 1-4 lbs. every year a bass or two from different lakes got put in it. The little stunted bass dissapeared. It's been nothing but a catch and release pond.
Fished it tonight, for the first time in a couple of years. He had cows on it, and I hate having to try and fish with cows in the water, and that is where they stayed during the drought. Sold his herd as there was no grass left.
Sizes went from 1 lb to 4 1/4. Fought snd lost one that was a real sow.

Looks like a lot of fun, I like eating fish but there is no doubt that a busy day of catch and release still has it's place - cleaning fish can be a bit like work.

I used to go with my grandpa when he'd restock his pond. We'd go over to Adams Creek in BA, on the other side of the section, with a cane pole and a coffee can of worms we dug up behind the barn. He'd catch a bucketful of wee little bass, perch, bluegills, and catfish, then we'd take them back to the pond. Good times, good times...

Yeah this pond is my project. I fly fish Lake Ponca for sunfish in the summer, and put them in there, along with minnows to keep them fed up.
My grandson caught that blue three years ago, and it had grown to 11 lbs. I'm tossed if I need to take it out of there now. I'm sure it can eat a 1 lb bass now.
We never catch any small fish, so maybe the plan is working?
