It's no big deal, and you don't feel a thing. The worse part is the stuff you have to drink, and staying by a toilet, oh and not getting to eat. I had my Wife write Toxic, Enter at Your Own Risk on my butt cheek.

I am 59... My dad died of colon cancer. The doctor that did his colectomy told me and my two brothers that we stand about a 70% chance of the same thing. I have one every three years like clock work. I DO NOT want to experience what my father did. It is NOT fun. The procedure seems to encrotch on your dignity, is exhausting and not fun from any prospective... but it can sure as hell extend you life... and with that, I choose to have them done. Hope others do too!

I've had two of them over the years - as many others here have stated, the prep is the worst part. I had no pain during and remember nothing of either procedure, and was awake during both. (That's the best drug I've ever had - including throughout my 7 years of college!) In all seriousness, everyone should have a colonoscopy at least by age 50. The colorectal surgeon who did both of mine told me he's saved more lives than any cardiac specialist he knows.

As with everyone else, the prep was the worst part. I call it the night of a 1000 waterfalls. I chose no anesthesia or medication - the nurses thought I was crazy. It was interesting to watch the monitor and see "places" I had not seen before. The most uncomfortable part was when the scope was pulled out. I had a brief moment of thinking I just dropped a big turd on the table.

Have your wife use a black sharpy, write EXIT on your left butt check and ONLY on your right butt check. In general, like others have said, get this done since you over 50.
